I am reminded of de Tocqueville's comment about what will bring the republic down. The Bank of England is a  really inefficient way to go about doing that, though. It's going to take quite the dog and pony show to convince people that two pounds in taxes is worth one pound in handouts and another in bailout money to fat cats.

I suppose the folks at BoE could resign en masse and flee, but they probably have too much professional pride to do that.

I've only heard her speak a couple of times, both times she used the line "I don't agree with the premise of your question" - both times the interviewer asked her why not and she didn't answer.

"We will make sure that local consent is in place" as opposed to, "we will make sure there is local consent" - ominous words for fans of not drilling huge holes in the ground and exploding the rock underneath.
