What on earth was she invested in?
She didn't mate, asked what was in her pot , got a letter saying just under,900k
Left it for about 9 months,( waiting to get a redundancy package )and went to see an advisor, got a update, fell to 600k +,
I couldn't believe it so said get it checked, it was right, but strangely if she just takes her pension mthly it has gone up and so has the lump sum?
Don't understand it myself ?
Few of her mates had got the full sum out and invested it , but seemed to be doing well so she was looking into it.

Sounds like she had a final salary pension then. The actual pension and lump sum are guaranteed, the transfer value isnt. The actuaries who calculate the transfer value would have assumed gilt yields would rise, hence lower transfer value. My final salary transfer value went from £250k to £600k in about 18 months when rates were plummeting 5 years ago. Needless to say, I shifted it.

She was thinking if she died basically , I would only get a fraction, and the pension company would be the winners.
Think she is going to take a big lump sum and a garrentee pension now.
I don't really get involved as it to much money. For me to stick my oar in, as it's not mine and I honestly know nothing about it.
