The incentive is to do what’s right for the country, not worry about bleeding elections. Blair, Brown and Cameron should all be strung up for their failure to ensure energy security. The U.K. has everything it needs to be self sufficient in energy, and successive governments have ducked the important decisions, and played the ‘green card’ …..

The green card is the right card to play for the long term energy security even the big Oil and gas players are moving into the green economy for there own future.

It’s how it’s done tbh. Boris and his madcap heat pumps vs gas boilers gives no consideration to those millions of solid brick/ stone homes, flats etc etc. The sheer cost of installation, changing all pipe work and radiators etc plus the additional manufacturing costs and dumping of existing kit makes a mockery or pretending to be green. Obviously all new builds can have every energy saving device possible, but its the other half of the country that can’t is the problem. Then you get to electric cars...imagine the scene with rows and rows of terraced housing all having leads trailing out of them or the millions of on street chargers required. That’s before you get to the absolute issues of battery disposal, increased car weight and more tyre burn off. It’s the lack of thought that bugs me and the stupid timescales they try to force through…..

No, actually I was referring to harsh bills.

This cap will do little to help those that NEED help, and will just be a huge debt we all have to pay off in the long term. If/when wholesale prices fall, our bills will stay artificially higher in order to pay off this loan that Truss has devised. It's really short-sighted.
I was joking, like.

I agree, which is why mass transit systems are the only way for this country to go. Every town or big village with more than 3000 people should have a connection to a railway network; below that should be buses. EVs would be limited to cars (for those who are genuinely miles away from anything) and vans for local deliveries.

So only the rich in the country then? As the country poor will have limited supply to bring down costs. Or subsidise EV access for them.

It's tricky. I don't see anyone proposing to eradicate private transport any time soon. It would really require a serious improvement in public transport before it could even be mooted.

They will change names and promote the new company as a green renewable business.
Will they even change the name?

I guess you are right and that they'll divest themselves of their hydrocarbons assets and associated liabilities for clean up/ decommissioning/ environmental commitments when it is financially advantageous to them.

Statoil is now Equinor and Dong Energy changed to Orstead a few years back.

They play a brilliant marketing game.
