Just woken up to Pickford post match interview saying:

"I think it is the Everton luck when we come to Anfield".

Firstly he's a brave lad for doing interviews, personally I would have liked him to be sheilded, with a bit of time comes a clearer perspective... But talk about reinforcing a stereotype!!! I thought we had gone a long way to rid ourselves off this Anfield bottlers/'Everton that' mindset with that performance yesterday... but then bang, here it is again.

Lots of teams have poor records there, maybe I've a bad memory, but I can never remember Fergusons ManU or Mourinhos Chelsea (teams with winning mentalities) saying a loss at the pit was "just he ManU/Chelsea luck at Anfield". Blame the ref, blame not enough added time, blame defensive concentration, blame tiredness, the state of the pitch etc. But let's not have any more reinforcing of this 'Everton that' mindset, especially from our players and coaching staff!

As painful as it is, look at that goal again and tell me it isn't luck.

There's something friggin wrong with us going there. It's honestly a curse.

Surprised by some of the Ref comments. I thought he was very out of his depth. My perspective was that Gana should have been given a free kick in the centre at the end. I saw him bottle giving Mane a yellow for a deliberate hand ball. You could see the blokes disappointment when he had no choice but to book one of their players.

Think that was the cleanest performance I have seen from an Everton team in a derby. Gomes yellow was very soft. Their Fans were subdued for large parts.

As for they don't see it as their biggest game, Salah stated it was the biggest game of the season for them. Goal aside, was pleased with the performance and professionalism.

Ref did do well though, the handball wasn’t a yellow card because it didn’t meet any of the 3 reasons for giving a yellow for handball. And he booked like 4 of their players, doesn’t seem disappointed in that.

On another point. Coins being thrown apparently at Van dijk which would imply our fans, however there were a number of players around so could have been at any. Either way, whichever fans were doing it are pathetic. Though we had moved on from that.

It's obvious the lack of an actual striker is costing us right now. Richarldson is good but you don't want your striker defending in his own box or tracking back to that extent.

I hope the club are ready to back that. Sell niasse and gamble on a striker who can play in this team. Ironically onykerwu would be ideal for us right now.

The positive from yesterday is that them lot take a flukey win as standard and won't earmark the fact their best 11 struggled to beat us. Whereas we matched the 2nd in the league stride for stride so the progress Silva has made is massive

Then again, an actual striker may not have scored yesterday.

Richarlison didn't miss a chance. The chances went to other players. I've said earlier in the thread but if those Mina and Gomes chances go to Richarlison then I reckon we're 2-0 up.

Just have to chalk it down to one of those things, we play that game 10 times, wed win a few lose a few and draw a few on that type of performance, for an away derby I'd take that everyone over playing to try not get battered as the first aim.

Checking social media and forums out for that lot, that last second fluke has totally in their eyes rewritten the actual game we saw.

Will say one thing though, they do have a very good keeper now. Nothing g else surprised me about them though, they looked stale and found it hard to live with the pace we set, we controlled the centre of the park, mane is by a way currently their best player. And as a unit their back four is pretty solid now.

Err, why?

My opinion was "We played the better footy, matched them, was really looking too Sigurdsson today, he had a poor game. Gana sloppy at times. Gomes boss, Richarlson quiet, Walcott, defensively good, not as good going forward, Bernard played well, got up and down the pitch, Keane really good again, Pickford...

Love it when lads think they know it all, and just because you saw it different doesn't make you right, I'll throw them bells over to you by the way.
Errr, you’re... not quoted in my post.

Yeah, there were maybe a few cards they got away with, mainly Sturidge for diving, and maybe Gomez could have got a second yellow for handbags with Richarlison, but it was one of the best refereeing performances in the Derby for many a year.

The morning after. Yes it hurt, yes it still hurts and yes it makes me and everyone else hate them just a little bit more. It could and should have been so much different, but there's enough now in this manager, squad and team performance to take so many positives away. Any Red would say EFC are a different team now and the tide is turning and trust me our time will come

After sleeping on it, very very excited about the direction we are heading.

Was a point in 2nd half we was taking the piss. They kept lossing the ball to us and they looked devoid of ideas.

Only VVD that finished the game would have got into our team at that point.

I expected us to be beaten, but the manor of the way we lost is sickening, after playing well. The luck they have is astounding, really is! I hope in the reverse fixture we get revenge.

Does anyone know if the home derby will be played on saturday or sunday 2-3 march? What is the feeling about the date?

To early to tell? If sunday I will be flying from Sweden.
Cheers friends.

What is worrying though is that we played very well, much better than any derby in recent times, and still lost.

They didn't play well and they will argue that they had the midweek game and we can genuinely say that our tactics nullified them to a large degree in an open game.

But they still won.

It doesn't grate as much this morning and its a very valid point that the direction of travel we are heading in looks very positive, but to lose in these circumstances can be hard to bounce back from.

The derby means a huge amount, and it seems silly to put everything onto the next one at GP, but we really need to win that game in whatever way we can. No excuses, no hard luck stories, no crap referee, nothing. This streak absolutely has to end before we go back to The Pit.
