Bolded this simply because we really should have took the lead. It was there for us, a Man U v Bayern moment. Their heads had dropped completely, fans with heads in hands and players looking lost. IF we hit the target we would have won. I keep telling that to my
wrong-Merseyside-club supporting chums, especially when they say we where lucky. I was gutted we didn't win!

I agree, I do not think unlike the papers that we were horribly outclassed. Also in my mind we should have had a penalty when Rom was brought down.

Correct, drew 3 then Won 3 then lost to City having been the last remaining unbeaten team.

So double what we have now. Who had we played? My memory is useless...

I know we've started poorly and I'm not covering that up but we've had a tough start... liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, plus two away trips to Leicester (who everyone is struggling at) and West Brom where we won... Palace at home was unacceptable and should have been 3 points.

My take on the game.

1) we are reletively lucky Barry was still on the pitch. Considering our players have been sent off for much less in these games.

2) Liverpool were the better team. They weren't a good team, just better than us...because.....

3) tactically we were terrible. enough has been said of the obvious luakaku positioning but the fact we had ineffective naismith and clearly not a winger lukakau to create chances yet they couldnt do either of their roles. nothing against them , they arent cut out to play them, so why we persist i don't know.

4) Ok Hibbert didnt do terribly, but i feel browning would have been a better choice for getting forward. The fact tony went off proves this as he wasnt adding anyhting to the team and browning vs sterling would have one winner.

5) I think it was one of those games where if either side lost then the fans would be saying fair enough. If we lost then fair enough they played better. If they lost then fair enough we were awful in front of goal etc

so yeah, the derby in a nutshell. Not the best game and clearly too teams in poor form not wanting to lose the game. I feel martinez is being too niaeve with his selections as he needs to drop naismith or lukaku and get some sort of system like last year going. playing them both out of their position is not helping us at all, luakaku as CF and naismith to drift round and get into those spaces in the box.

Drew with Norwich, Cardiff and West Brom - Beat Chelsea - Lost to City.

And i've missed out another win that I can't remember either.

Easier start last year then by some distance which is showing in the difference of points. Having said that on the day we should have beaten Leicester and Palace and Arsenal so we should have 7 more points than we do now. No point dwelling on that though, let's get three at United and really get us going!!!!

Remembered now.

Drew with Norwich, Cardiff and West Brom (CHRIST!)
Beat Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham.
Then lost to City.

1) Martínez does do pragmatism, despite what he says
Roberto Martínez once claimed he could never be satisfied by salvaging a point with a last minute goal if his team’s performance had not been up to scratch. He also said, only last week in fact, that he would “never set out a team to try to draw a game or just hope for a win, we can’t accept that.”

Going off topic for a moment, he condemned criticism of Phil Jagielka’s recent performances after his wonder-goal earned Everton a point at Liverpool on the basis that: “There has been talk of a World Cup hangover and I think that has been really unfair.” A fortnight ago, the Everton manager had said: “I always thought Phil Jagielka, like any player that comes back from the World Cup, was going to have a period to get back to his best. It takes time.”

Anyway, back to the point – there is nothing wrong with a touch of pragmatism now and again and even idealists such as the Everton manager are not immune from venturing there. Martínez deployed a three-man central midfield of James McCarthy, Gareth Barry and Muhamed Besic for the first time in the Premier League this season on Saturday, protecting a previously vulnerable defence, limiting Liverpool space but also reducing Everton’s attacking intent at a stroke. Besic, along with the debutant Tyias Browning, were among Everton’s better performers in the derby and it will be interesting to see if the pragmatic approach continues at Old Trafford next Sunday. I was laughed at but we will have a relegation battle on our hands and the problem is we are not battling

lol

After 6 games.

I've just read this whole thread. I made the right decision to swerve this place whilst the derby was on. A few funny comments but goodness me fella's, there is some cringey comments in here.

A few applause from the Anfield faithful when stones controlled that ball coming over his head. It was superb. He is more comfortable with the ball to his feet than most of our midfield!

That derby when we won 2 0 at Goodison with Cahill and Arteta scoring. That was Moyes best era in my opinion. I remember we had every one fit. Arteta and Cahill were at thier peak with Jags and Lescot solid as a rock. I wasnt nervous about it I was looking forward to it and I was vindicated by the comfortable 2-0 win that could have been more. Events since then have declined and I do feel Liverpool sense that fear. The way they kicked of the other day they didnt pass it back they went straight into our half. We did well to neutralise it. I hope by the time we get them.at Goodison we will be in a better position psychologically, in good form, with a fully fit squad.
