Transfer Rumour Liam Delap

I don't really have an opinion on him.

Not seen enough.

What I will say though, is he's 23.

Failing to be a striker at Chelsea shouldn't be the be all, end all. Bigger and better players will fail as Chelsea's number 9.

Football fans will always have a short memory and everything is the last few months/year.

There's an art at taking players who just aren't suited to their club, and I'm sure he'll look a better player after Chelsea.

Lot of short term memory loss in here. When he was playing every week in a team that played to his strengths he looked a proper player.

He's far from my first choice but would instantly make our 2 strikers look like the steaming pile of utter dog dirt that they are.
Yeah but we won't play to his strengths here, and he's been cack for a while himself so...

Brian Clough and Peter Taylor were masters of this.

That said, this fella is clearly gormless or greedy or both. Any idiot could have told him last summer that in a choice between Chelsea, Newcastle, and Everton he'd have been well advised going to the Barcodes. He'd have played Champions League football and been a Premier League regular. But he went to Chelsea for financial and egotistical reasons and has ended up precisely where we predicted he would: next to the exit door. A wasted year.

At best, he was badly advised. But that doesn't speak too well to his intelligence. He would have been loved at Everton. Heck, maybe he still would be after the year of Barry that we've just endured.

Stylistically, going to Chelsea was a silly move and I said as much last summer.

I'm not saying we should buy him, he's had a terrible season and is well short of confidence and it would take someone pretty brave to make that argument.

But, if you look at the Delap of last season, he's stylistically the sort of striker that Everton fans appreciate - runs channels, puts himself about, holds the ball up well, loves a physical battle etc.

His style doesn't suit Chelsea as they don't really use their striker as a focal point like we do, so I'm not surprised he's struggled. Would he be worth us taking this summer? Probably not, think his stock has fallen but his price won't fall enough to make the gamble worth it.

Can we stop going for CFs who are:

First Dogs
Second hold the ball up well
Third good in the air
Fourth score goals quite regular.

That seems to be the checklist in that order for every CF we are after regardless of the manager we have.

Normally for us the first 2 are all you need to be an Everton number 9

Not for me. No better than beto really just different qualities
DCL deciding to leave - not the clubs fault they made him an offer - sadly missed , but who wants to run a channel at no 9 for us ? with no support ? no overlapping full backs of quality = no crosses or support to get on to - DCL had the ability to hold the ball up - beto is getting better at that - barry cannot trap a bag of cement - Delap is a better prospect no more than that .....
