Let's take a step back...

Even if we do sell Ross and/or Rom later this window, the fact we've gone out and made so many fairly high-profile (alright, not exactly Pogba money, but 20m/30m per signing is still something for others to take note of) signings early in the window says that we are serious and not a selling club.

I'm just wondering which of our new signings will be out for the season with an injury.

One of Pickford, Sandro, Klaassen or Keane will miss at least a chunk of the season. We've had a nice couple of weeks and it's going to be everton'd.

Lukaku just after signing a new 5 year contract, utterly nailed on.

If I'm honest these players are not top four quality, they are decent premier league players with the ability to kick on but in the grand scheme of things I can't really see us getting near the top 4 next season.

I think these days 30m gets you decent players and 40/50 gets you top 4 players.
Is that really true though? United wanted Keane. Atletico wanted Sandro. Arsenal wanted Onyekuru. Rumors, maybe false were that multiple clubs in the top 6 wanted Pickford, though possibly as backup. Klaassen was team captain for a Europa league final team.

It wasnt that these players are players CL teams didnt want to buy. Its that we could provide them with more sure opportunities to start. Where top 4 quality teams were telling them that maybe they had a 50/50 chance, we were telling them it was surer thing. These players arent nobodies or rejects, and while they havent quite been proven yet good or bad, Im not sure its fair to treat them like lower class players than the scouts of the top 4 see them.

To those cynics who say all we're doing is cementing 7th place, I say... DAMN RIGHT... And that should be viewed as a GOOD thing. The same way as any of the team above us are cementing whichever place they respectively finished in. If you stand still in this league then you move backwards, and I for one am sick of the 1 step forward/1 step backward approach that characterised us previously.
Consolidation? Yes, absolutely. If we make the old glass ceiling the new floor then we have a good basis for moving forward.

Everyone starts from ground zero on day 1, and we'll see if the squad we've got is good enough to overhaul any of the teams who finished above us last season. It's a competitive league, but no one can really argue that after 38 games that their respective finishing position is not reflective of how good they have been over the course of the season.

I don't see what the problem with consolidating is (not saying anyone on here in particular, just some fans I know who were wanting us to sign all sorts of players for instant success) It'll take a few years to get back to the top, it didn't happen overnight for City despite their rich owners. We need to consolidate and have regular European football, attract more names, push on, consolidate, rinse and repeat. This is a very nice start getting players in early. Plus getting a young spine in the team early (Pickford, Keane, Klassen, Sandro) means next window we could buy more luxury players, or that really expensive £50m player etc.

I want to win trophies as much as the next fan, but I'd rather the team took time to have regular success than be one season wonders like Leicester. (and I certainly don't begrudge them their title)

I couldn't careless if they would get in the top 6 teams, all that's matter is this... would they get in our starting line up? Yes they would. are they improvements on what we have? Yes they are.

We finished 7th an improved massively in the GK department and Keane is a upgrade on Mori

With EL we had to improve depth. We also had to add more goal scoring options. We also needed to upgrade GK, CB. So far we have addressed these priorities and done this with young, improving players not quick fixes. We've consolidated and that is a good thing.

The Rom replacement will still make or break the summer so the jury is out but that does not mean we have not improved. We have. We still need to do more but as others have said this is about building a sustainable platform.

I like the fact we have a mix of home grown and acquired young players with room to improve and the desire to do so. That shows a more sustainable approach to closing the gap to top 4 than a random trophy signing.

Do I think we're top 4 level yet? No. Do I think we are building the right way? Yes. If we sell Rom & replaced him with for example Giroud & Dolberg/Dembele to balance short and medium term needs then we'd have successfully navigated a major threat to our progress and show that we are serious about making the breakthrough. Glass half full.

Just now I am still worried about losing Lukaku. We haven't replaced his goals. Sandro will cover some and Davy perhaps cover Ross' plus a few. We are still 10 short for me and probably need to increase our goals scored by 10-15 on last season.

Keane is a good signing, but Pickford might be a bit of a punt to me, hope I am proved wrong.

To break top four we probably need a few more windows like this one plus a couple of big signings.

A great start though

... Everton have spent about £90 million in a matter of weeks, Walsh is working his magic and contract Dave is appearing all over the show. Happy days.

But let's a have a look at the bigger picture. This isn't just big in terms of spending. Pickford, Keane, Klaassen and Sandro. A keeper, a centre half, centre mid and forward... the spine of a team all aged 24 and under. This is potentially huge in terms of our teams future.

We're not splashing the cash on flavour of the month players who we'll get one good season out of before they get bored and bugger off (Payet anyone?), we've put in place the spine of a team which we could potentially build around for 10 years, lots of thought and forward planning has gone into this.

I'm not going to sit here and convince myself or you guys that we've signed 4 world class players, I don't know much about Sandro or Klaassen and I've only seen bits and pieces of the others on the tv, but this could be the foundation to really push on to the next big step.

Exciting times here blues, as a 26 year old this is the first time I've ever experienced Everton doing the dirty in a transfer window like this.

Up the mighty Ev!
That was good post up until this point

Klassen & Sandro cover Rom's goals already, combined they outscored him last season although Klassen's were admittedly in a league were its easier to score. Both should improve again this year and last year was a freak season for Rom, he'd never hit 20 league goals before.

I still think Rom will stay anyway but we've moved on from relying on 1 player for our goals, they'll be spread all over the place now.

The other crowd got a champions lge place with a top scorer who scored 13, I think.

We really don't know what position we are shooting for this season.
The addition of possibly six or seven players to a team/squad is huge and there will be a settling in period for the new team as well as for the new players.
Some will probably be more successful than others.
A big bonus is that so many are signed from day one and can start settling in immediately, Klaasen in particular. It will also help that Keane and Pickford already play in the premiership so they know what is expected.
Sandro may have the greatest difficulty, arriving well into pre season after a holiday and settling into a new league and indeed a new country.

So the view includes, we'll lose at least one to injury; bought players that can't get in a top 6 team; had to spend to keep our hold on 7th; won't be able to replace Rom; Europe will see us relying on youngsters; we've lost Liverpool a world heritage city status because of dock side stadium (I know....I know...but you can bet the Echo mention it if it happens and not the tower blocks o_O)

I'm not having any of this if I'm honest, injuries do happen but we have depth in most positions. There is not one player bought that isn't good enough for any team in the country (a few would argue given like for like in situ but they'd be seen as competition at the very least). We of course had to improve to move with the teams above and below us but we've done it earlier and better. If Rom goes fine, most teams built and won by rotating an older striker through seasons look at Chelsea and United (just think about who Rooney played with) over the last 15 years we do that with Giroude or whomever this season happy days it's an expendable position in terms of transfers, we won't get a life time centre forward don't need one either. I'm hopeful that we use the youngsters who are the Champions of this country at under 23. The liver birds are blue so there....
