Let's not kid ourselves

No we haven't.

They're a bunch of blaggards. Flattering to deceive once more. I'd say they're no better than us individually, they just have a collective arrogance about them that we don't - for some reason. Mourinho had it right about them last week.

That said, it's a poor reflection on us if we allow teams to undo us with the few chances they get, and take all day trying to suss out a way through them. My feeling is our players believe the things written about them as individuals but don't do anywhere's near enough to get the MSM as excited about them as they do about the likes of other teams when they have a good spell.

We need a siege mentality installed in most of our side. A 'Dogs of War' approach, but (Unless absolutely necessary) without the playing system that went with it. The Joe Royle type 'Bollox to the lot of ya' attitude after we did for spurs in 95 and ruined the 'dream final'.

I'm very guilty of fuming at individual results but I'd like to think I hold a fairly balanced and realistic view of the overall picture. I'll keep saying it but I will never be happy with a defeat no matter who it's against.
A good fume now and then is healthy. It shows we want to aim high.

Though I reckon "sack the manager" and "we've had it" after almost every defeat may not foster a positive mindset for the fanbase as a whole.

I don't get this thread. What's wrong with a fan hoping for the best? If you don't go into every game hoping for a win, then what's the point in being a fan? It doesn't matter if the results don't go our way every time, but saying "Hey, stop hoping for a great season" is the exact kind of mediocrity mentality which has been rife around here for a long time. It's depressing, even more so than the knee-jerkers' posts.
There is nothing wrong with being optimistic or getting carried away, this is football ffs not an investment of your entire life savings.

The main problem with the window for me is this. it was an opportunity to get players in that would keep lukaku at this club. for all his faults he s a goalscorer and they are few and far between. koeman hasnt got 2 years to keep lukaku. i d say he s got only the next window. we have to stay in the top 6 to have a chance of attracting a couple of players who will genuinely improve us. one of those has to be a playmaker. barkley is far from the answer.

We are not as good as some think we are. We are currently between 7th and 10th for me. Can beat anyone on any given day but can also lose to anyone. Some of our players are average and some are very weak mentally as will. I think we need to ado players who are winners but that isn't that easy

I agree with this. There are certain players for us that just aren't consistent enough. The likes of Mirallas, Barkley, Deulofeu and even players like Coleman and Jagielka are struggling to consistently put in solid performances these days. For us to be a top 5 team, those players really need to be squad players until they find some consistency but unfortunately we are having to rely on them more often than just being squad players.

Mirallas has been here too long now to change his ways, but Barkley and Deulofeu hopefully can improve in that respect. I thought Barkley had a fairly sold game yesterday without being spectacular and Deulofeu was lively when he came on.

For me though our weakest areas are in defence and the back up for Lukaku. We need to be looking to replace Jagielka and Baines who are both now nearing the end of their careers and we need a second striker who is capable of supporting Lukaku with goals. Someone like Charlie Austin, but given the size of club we are and the money we have, i'd like to think we can attract better than him. I'm not talking anyone unrealistic but there has to be someone that we can bring in who is better than Kone/Niasse/Valencia.

I agree that we are 7th at best and 10th at worst and fully expect us to finish somewhere between 7th-10th.

Rather than an arbitrary time period, it just feels like there's an obligatory mass fume after every result that doesn't go our way.

I feel we could do with retaining at least some positivity for the time being, personally, otherwise we'll do our own heads in with negativity.

What does being positive on an Internet forum actually help with? Nothing! If people feel negative then let them be... I can't believe how bad we are... Barkley isn't good enough... Gerry looks like he's trying but again .. isn't good enough.... jags has had two nightmares in a row... lukaku will leave next year.... our bench is disgustingly bad and we have not won in 4 matches.. losing to Norwich, Bournemouth and burnley ... people have good cause to feel negative at the moment imo

Lot of mystic meg's (or should that be neg?? Ill get me coat...) here. Here's a revolutionary idea, why not wait and see at the end of the season instead of all these hissy fits in October. We knew this wouldnt be an overnight fix.

Ahh the wait and see approach? Like when people were getting slated for saying Everton would have a crap window... being called bed wetters etc and the same with people calling time on RM.... let's wait... let's wait... people can fume whenever they want to imo... waiting in RM cost us a cup final IMO ... unsworth would have had them playing better..

I am astonished at the immaturity of some people. Koeman's had less than five months in charge and we've played ten? twelve? games. Give him two seasons for goodness' sake. We knew where we were with Martinez after two seasons (the club took too long to pull the trigger and should have chopped him in summer 2015) so I see no reason why that same time period would not be appropriate for Koeman.

Gana and Williams have both proved to be excellent transfers. If they can achieve consistency, Stekelenburg and Bolasie will also be regarded as very good acquisitions. Until the next window arrives we must allow Koeman time to let his coaching and tactics take effect. Of course we need to strengthen IF the right players are available at the right price, but transfers are not the be all and end all of football.... unless you're 14 and spend several hours a day on FIFA.

You mightn't recall, but people were wetting the bed the minute we signed Martinez, just before he went on to get a record PL season with us. Fans have proven time and time again that they haven't an effing clue. Analyse our mistakes by all means, but the indiscriminate toy-throwing should be mocked for what it is

So the "beg wetters" were saying RM was a joke and a bad appointment as soon as he signed? He then had the season you mentioned.... then was shocking and completely ruined our amsquad and probably would have taken us down .. so... the bed wetters were right in the end weren't they.. you just didn't see it early enough..
