Lescott for Moutinho

With the impending transfer of Joleon Lescott to Manchester City drawing ever nearer, the only matter still up for debate being the price we get for him, I feel to make my stance clear on the issue of his departure.

Now, Lescott is a good player, his partnership with Jags last season particularly bore fruit however I won't mind seeing him leave considering the money being spoken. I may have been worried losing him to city but as we had Joey Yobo sitting on the bench most of last season who can fill the void i would be happy to see us grab the opportunity to take a huge leap forward in europe this season.

The defence may seem a little threadbare, especially when Lescott goes, but people seem to forget we have the astonishingly ugly yet superbly versatile Phil Neville who would be more than capable of partnering Yobo in Jagielka's absence. Also, don't forget we have a young prospect by the name of Jack Rodwell whose style echoes that of a young Rio Ferdinand, whom I witnessed develop from a tentative defensive midfielder into a commanding Centre Back when I held a Wham season ticket for a few years. Jack will no doubt fulfill his dream of being leading the toffees defence one day.

Onward to my main point, Bill and David are doing a fantastic job of hiking up the price we get for Joleon and I'm confident they won't do anything silly like accept makeweights in the deal, meaning we will get £20-22million for Lescott. The smartest thing to do with this money will be to hold on to it until the end of the transfer window when Sporting have realised Real's Jorge Valdano has no intentions of following up his admiration of Joao Moutinho with a bid. Then Table an offer of €22.5million (£20m) for the skillful Portuguese triggering his buy-out clause, he has already expressed a desire to join us.

We will then be a creative force to be reckoned with in the Europa League.

Oh. My. God.. This is.... wrong in soooo many ways.

I hope they won't do anything silly too and your idea is way beyond silly.

You basically want to turn us into another Newcastle or ManC (or last season), place all focus on the offence and hope they will score more goals than our shaky defence will concede. And in my eyes that's not the way to progress in any competition, and especially not in Europe where the most important thing in awaygames it to keep a clean sheet.

A good defence is something very important to me, but I think it need not come at the expense of a good midfield. In another post I suggest sacrificing Steven Pienaar in order to sign a couple of promising premier league full backs. That would solve any depth issues in defence, maybe add to that the signing of someone from the back line at portsmouth - preferably Hreidarsson or Distin and we've improved on last year.

Come on son, your going downhill here. Hreidarsson????

really?????

Pienaar is one of our most talented players and will be HUGE for us next season.

Hreidarsson????

Can you suggest anyone else, apart from Cacapa, who would cost virtually nothing, be happy to sit on the bench for a season as cover and is a decent defender to call on when times are hard.

We're losing Lescott, what do you suggest we do??

Nope, Lescott isnt going anywhere and to be honest you have lost the plot.

Pienaar??? I aint gonna comment on your judgement of him, infact yes I will, HAHAHAHAHA.

And this player that you claim will be sitting on the bench, will infact be playing untill Jags is back and also when Yobo goes the ANC.

You my friend are a really bad WUM.

Pienaar was good toward the end of last season but when everyone's is fit I wouldn't have him in the team. On the bench yes, he's a good impact player to bring on when plan a isn't happening, preferably though I'd like to see him go. I don't like his attitude.

But are we losing him?

I'm an optimist, I believe Joleon will stay one more year, Go the World Cup by this time we'll be in the Champions League, Joleon will be praised, So will Moyes, Then we'll move on.

To answer your other question, Michael Mancienne on loan.

To be fair Pienaar came in to his own in the last three months of the season he was very inconsistent before that, great players though.

Agree. But I would replace inconsistent with 'consistently poor'.

Certainly wouldn't sell him though.

Who would you play on the left instead of him then, cant wait for the answer.
