It's the arrogance of Osman and Hibbert that annoys me.

How on earth either of them thought they were going to get another contract after their contributions in the 15/16 season astounds me.

Osman did nothing of any significance last season in a struggling side and Hibbert had practically stolen a living from 2013-2016. Especially Hibbert. In his final few years he was literally a laughing stock. Just a stick for fans of other clubs to beat us with.

Some people call them both "servants" but I strongly disagree with this. The term servant implies they sacrificed something. When I think of servant in footballing terms I think of Stevie at the RS. A genuinely good player who carried a club at times and did not move for more money or glory. Would either Hibbert or Osman have got into a better premiership side at any stages of their careers? The answer is no. In his book Osman talks about being out of contract in 2005. The only other decent-ish team that came in for him was Portsmouth. They offered him a bit more money but he probably realized at that stage how lucky he was to have come through at Everton.

At best they were reasonably effective options for a team that had no money and at worst they were a drain on resources, squad places, and held back youngsters ready and waiting for a chance.

For me coming out and having a go at the club was bang out of order after being released. Like they hadn't already been told they weren't getting new deals? If they are angry at anyone it should 100% be their agents. Why were their agents not talking to people at the club? I appreciate we had just sacked Martinez and changed ownership but if Everton were saying "we'll have to wait and see what the new manager thinks" their agents should have been on the phone to other clubs getting offers. The agents were free to do this as both players were in the last 6 months of their deals. However, I could well imagine both players very much having a "10k a week at a perm club in the northwest or nothing" attitude.

The fact is neither have got deals anywhere else which shows their current ability and that Everton were 100% right to let them go. Like they haven't both got Bill's phone no. In their mobiles. Like they couldn't have called him in May to discuss the situation. Like Bill would have told them nothing and keep them in the dark. Like Everton wouldn't have let them both train in the afternoons (or when the 1st team weren't there) to keep themselves fit during the summer.

It's pathetic. All they've done is shown they have no class and burned their bridges with the club. If they'd have kept their mouths shut they could have both had jobs working with the youth team in a couple of years. All they have accomplished with their little outbursts is to show everyone that they are ungrateful and cannot be trusted.

Both gave 25 years of service from childhood to retirement, they deserved a little more respect from the club.

Appreciate your opinion mate and I'd probably say many people would agree with you.

The problem is that I think both players could have done a lot more to clarify the situation before being released. I'm on a 1 year contract myself that expires in September (obviously I have a normal job- not a footballer). I've already spoken to my boss about next year and if he can't give me any assurances I'll be making moves to go somewhere else long before my "deal" expires.

Coming out afterwards and moaning about it is ridiculous. In my opinion it shows how complacent and self-entitled they both became towards the end. How could either of them genuinley think they were so important?

More than anything it's shows how terrible their agents must be. Neither one put a call in to their clients to say "by the way, your deal expires tomorrow and we haven't heard anything from the club".

I know Hibbert has used the "friends who saw it on the website were the first to tell me" line, but I just don't buy it. I think that was just to get more attention in the press.

However, I'm probably not going to change your mind and as I said before your more than entitled to your opinion.

Not being arsey here, but when did Osman do this? Have you got a link?

I remember Hibbert doing a little interview with the Daily Mail, but I haven't heard Osman say a bad word about the club. Might have just passed me by like,

So by that comparison, Steven Gerrard thinks Leon Osman is better than Lionel Messi.

Stevie G also thought that they weren't going to 'let this slip'... :D

They found out from family and friends, no one at the club contacted either Hibbert or Osman to make them aware they wouldn't be offered a new deal.

Only when their names was on the release list and family members texted them.

Rather poor from the club.

See below.

Whilst I definitely agree on most of your post, it does seem a bit harsh. I agree they must have 'known' beforehand that they weren't being offered new deals, even if perhaps they weren't told 'officially', and if not then that is their own and their agents fault. If I was in their/your position and I had an agent yet I didn't find out 'til I was out of work my agent would be out of a job and in court! Either way they certainly deserved an official 'So long and thanks for all the fish' from the club imo.

All the 'grass' calling etc however, is over the top for me, and I hope in the future bridges can be mended and they can come back to the club in some way. I think it's important to keep people who have been part of the club for that long as part of the club, even if they weren't that good. Isn't that part of what our club is about?

...and you've asked the right question. Look at the Mail any day of the week, especially on a Premier League Saturday, and you will never see any mention of Everton..only very briefly if they are talking about our opposition that day. People on here moan about other rags attitude to Everton, but it is obvious that the Mail has some sort of boycott on Everton news, unless its a fanciful dig at us. Both players are happily retired...Hibbo has not looked for a club, and Ossie has reported that for the first couple of months he had offers, but turned them down, and when Rangers wanted to talk to him, it was too late, he had arranged his media work. This has always been a non-story, picked on and expanded by that group of Evertonians who seem to get pleasure or a 'buzz' out of bringing down the club they support at any opportunity.

I have to admit I found the Hibbert interview completely bizarre. Albeit, a clear case of a journalist taking a player for a ride. He was probably mortified when he read it.

But Osman, i've never heard him say a bad word about EFC. People seem to link the two so closely that he gets blamed for the Hibbert interview? It's strange.

It's a shame there's this feeling towards them now. Both played big parts in the process of dragging us from regular relegation battlers, to regular contenders for European spots. It's not their fault we never kicked on from that point. If we had, or we'd picked up some silverware, i'm sure they'd be given much more credit.

I've got time for both of them.

hibbert is such a weird manifestation of a football player. born in a era too late and hell of lucky guy, he should be more grateful, could of followed big dunc footsteps and bank on his cult status to get himself a decent gig at everton but I guess not

Regardless of what the players came out and said mate, and if you read back on my last two posts you'll see I agree with a lot of what you say, I think the point Moomin is making is that the Club could have been more classy with this.. I agree with him.
