Think he's well past it anyway so I wouldn't mind getting his wages off the books. We desperately need to sign another player of his ilk though -- one with more upper body strength, like.

Though going out with an injury would be a crappy way to go, got to say.

Sad way to go out if true. It wouldn't be too hard to believe that if the Osman injury was missed/under-estimated then it could well have been the cause of some heads rolling.

Martinez has said that he picked it up against West Ham (22/11). If this is true and not a mistake, then it means that he played in the next 4 games. Wolfsburg (27/11 - 59 mins), Spurs (30/11 - 29 mins), Hull (3/12 - 90 mins) and Man City (6/12 - 2 mins). He hasn't been seen since then.

Originally (18/12) it didn't appear as though Martinez thought it was that bad and this is what was reported.
"Leon Osman, however, remains a “real doubt” for Saturday but Martinez added that the midfielder was “progressing well” from a long-standing foot problem and he will be assessed day by day."

(24/12) Martinez added: "Tony Hibbert still needs a couple of weeks. He picked up a knock in training so he is out of the squad for the next two games. Leon Osman is very similar."

The tone then changed.

(30/12) “Leon Osman is a real worry with a split tendon in his foot which he picked up against West Ham and he will be out for a while."

(6/1) "10-12 weeks out."

(9/1) “Leon Osman has had a split tendon in his foot and so that was always going to be a long-term problem. He has escaped surgery and that was good news but at the moment it is still quite early in his rehab and I don’t expect Leon to be back until a further date.”

And now this latest very serious rumour. What with the record amount of muscle injuries to half the squad, our ability to prevent, assess and recover players looks to be all over the place. This is so, so important. Not only for physical realities and performance but also for the confidence and psychological aspect of recovering from injuries. If the players don't have confidence in the staff/procedures being employed then this is a further hindrance to any recovery. Alternatively, it could be that the players have been ruling the roost and rushing back earlier than they perhaps should be due to a lack of strong leadership within the medical department.

Just reading his autobiography - great read up to now was plagued with injuries as a younger player- one leg longer than the other caused him problems - sad if he has to finish - should have played earlier in the first team for the blues out on loan at Derby County too long under DM!!

That's why he used to run in circles lol

I don't mind the lad, he's popped a few vital goals in for us over the years and has been good. Is his book any good? I'm mid way through Harry Catterick's biography and then have "In Search Of Duncan Ferguson" to read - shall I get Ossie's next?

True story - he nearly ran me over on my 30th birthday - he missed.

Injured against West Ham eh? Must have been that lung bursting jog he done to get on the end of the cross to score the winner.

In all seriousness, we've missed him big time with injuries and out of form players to others. Not arsed what anyone else says, not just a bench warmer but an important player for us.

On the Everton.com match day radio feed Osman was cohost. He was saying it was a very unusual injury and he'd had to go to lots of specialists and most didn't seem to know how best to deal with it.

However they have finally settled on a treatment that if it worked would be 3-4 weeks, presumably before able to train so would then have to get up to match fitness.

He was excellent in midfield vs West Ham in his 400th game, would be a real shame if an injury in that match ends his career so hopefully this new treatment works out.

Osman retiring?!

In all seriousness that is pretty sad news for him if true. I've never been an Osman fan but he has proved to be a decent enough player whilst he was here. I always thought he would have shone in a smaller Premier League team.
