As for Ross, I doubt he'll sign what would be seen as a 7 year deal. I can see a new 5 year deal, with pay increases in those years depending on England caps, appearances, etc. I also think a £30 million buyout will be put in his contract, he'd be silly to agree anything larger at this point in his careeer (and I suspect his agent will be saying the same thing). However, if the league goes the way we want it to and we start consistently getting into Europe and perhaps get a could of trophies, they'll review it in 3 years anyway.

why would we agree to a buy-out clause for Barkley and why would he want one?

if it was £30m we'd lose him in the summer / after the world cup.

We put a £23million release clause in our record signing, on the promise of his ability. I doubt Barkley would ask, but I'm certain his agent would.
 
Barkley's not some foreign mercenary with no connection to the club, who sees us as a stepping stone to other club. He's a Blue through and through. Can't see him demanding a release clause at all.

With the silly numbers being thrown around its understandable. 55m might sound like a reasonable compensation now but in 2 or 3 years, that number could be seen on the lower side of a valuation. Bale is a great example of this....... the reported clause of 100M in the Suarez contract is another, for as little as 12 months ago if you would of mentioned this figure about him, you would of surely died of laughter....

Barkley is no where near the finished article and his ceiling (if you will) is huge !! We couldn't even possibly put a clause in his contract either, unless of course it was for silly money.
 
30 mil release clause and he´ll be gone in the summer. He´ll be one of the worlds best and is English to boot.
