Leighton Baines

I don't think United have ever intended to sign Baines (Fergie or Moyes.)

Patrice Evra's contract expires in the summer - Baines will have one-year left. They've tapped Baines up for when Evra's contract expires, imo. Knowing full well that Baines wouldn't sign a new deal knowing that lot wanted him.

Hence the derisory bids..... They'll have us over a barrel next summer, and they get a (slightly)youngerand better replacemeant for Evra... Watch this space....

Of course, that's just speculation, on my behalf.

....Baines is top drawer. His performances at international level (before last night) were excellent and surely alerted clubs even superior to United. He's looked that good. Last season it got to a point where our left back was our most influential player. Incredible stats back up his value to the team. This season I don't think that level of influence has been the same. Not sure if this is down to RM approach of full backs not getting forward or Baines form. Probably a bit of both, but I do suspect he's been told he can go, remember RM saying 'this club will not stand in the way of players who want to leave'. My view is that he will go, its just a matter of when but his current form isn't at the level it has been and perhaps his style isn't so important in the RM model.

Would rather he stayed at Everton. This evertonisation of man utd is becoming a disgrace. You burnt us with fellaini who looks a million miles from a man utd player. THe fact cleverley is above him in the pecking order is proof. Really hope moyes has learnt his lesson and we go for shaw/coentrao. Younger+resale value if push comes to shove. Baines is incredibly overrated and has been for a LONG time. Two years ago Evra had a poor season during Suarez gate but since then he's been consistantly one of oru best players and one of our most influential players both on and off the pitch.

Proof baines is overrated? Man Utd left-back Patrice Evra has created more EPL chances this season (15) than Leighton Baines (11), despite playing 90 mins fewer.

Proof that its Moyes' tactics which exploited Baines ande made him look better than he actually is. Spending 20m on him would be a disgrace.

How many chances has Evra created compared to Baines in the last 5 seasons?

Evra is good, but he's not Baines-good.

...I think what the lad is saying is that Moyes style suited Baines. This year the stats are slanted in Evra's favour because Moyes is no longer with us and RM doesn't encourage his full backs to go forward so much.

could be a fair point, let's see how the season goes.

I disagree with that a bit mate.

Coleman's had more shots so far this season than he had all last season.

It's not that he doesn't encourage it, he just doesn't rely on it and we try to attack through the middle more now.

I've definitely noticed less attacks from Coleman and Baines this year tbh
