Leighton Baines

Afraid so Adversus, good summary there.
I know it's angering because I think most of us think he will go on to be a quality player, I even said an England international a while back so it makes us wish simply playing him now might change that but it won't and we should probably accept that. It is what it is.

Thought oviedo got roasted for the first 30 minutes or so but soon got to grips and was ok for the remainder, did well going forward too.

Both our full backs werent getting much cover

Absolutely, the system Martinez played left Oviedo completely exposed with no midfield cover. After 30 mins besic started trying to get over which helped and Oviedo grew into the job.

Was he the real deal though?

Right up there with Stuart Ripley if you ask me mate, always good for my yearly crimbo top 100 goals video tape compilation. Gaurenteed Tony Daley would have 3 belters on there
I'm.sure Cyril Regis scored the 1st goal that game as well and he looked about 46 years old. We played well the first 15 minutes. I wish memory lane had a manhole I could fall in to save myself the bother of reminiscing utter tripe games

He played in the 6-2 too didn't he?

I have bleached that right out of my head so could be wrong on detail.

All I remember about that game is Beagrie making his debut, taking a shot which was going 30 yards wide and deflects in and doing a triple somersault trying to claim it and I thought what an absolute beaut. Cracking tash though so all was forgiven. Had a lot of family in Marple who had similar tashes so it was obviously the fashion.

Why was it whenever we were on TV in the 90's we were absolutely dog [Poor language removed]?

Ibe is the real deal. He runs at lighting pace with close control.

And so do a hundred other players like him, his shot is the other thing that differentiates him from the likes of redmond.

Ibe was very average against us (especially once oviedo realised he could just show him down the line every time) and the only reason he is being bigged up the way he is, is to placate the cult and distract from what was a crap performance against us (including Ibe), the same reason Courtious was MOTM against them in a game where he did nothing really.

To keep it relevant to Oviedo, good performance defensively from him.

I think it was mostly because we was utter dogshit mate.

The silver and white striped kit is another memory of that 6-2. Bommy night too.

What is wrong with Baines ? Why he not play ? Also mcgeady ? Anyone know ?
Leighton Baines will be assessed ahead of Wednesday's Premier League game at Chelsea. The Everton left-back was missing from Saturday's squad for the Merseyside derby despite a late fitness test on a knee injury. Speaking after the 0-0 draw, Martinez said: "It was a disappointment. As you can imagine, Leighton did not want to miss the game for anything and we tried everything to get him fit.

"But the knee wouldn’t settle and we had a fitness test this morning which showed he wasn’t 100 per cent to play. "I don’t know about Wednesday [against Chelsea]. I don’t think it is a long-term problem and I think he could be available – if the game was a week away, I would definitely feel that he would be ready.

Another absentee from the teamsheet to face Liverpool was Aiden McGeady.

"Aiden had a knock in training and has a bruised bone in the knee," Martinez explained. "I think he will be a little bit longer than Wednesday, even though it is not a serious problem."
