finally some sense.

Everyone saying that Lescott should be dropped or his natural position is centre half etc. (it may well be but it hasn't looked like it so far)

Lescott has started this season thinking his natural position is an attacking left winger, or playing just behind yakubu. Its his defensive duties he's been shirking in his eagerness to get on the ball and attack.

He needs to calm down and stay back a bit more, especially against teams like standard liege that have some of the fastest players in europe.

Once he does that he'll rediscover his mojo if it ever really went away.

I get the feeling that ashley cole, patrick evra etc would have had their hands full and [Poor language removed] up once or twice against that standard team.

all of a sudden he's a donkey we need to drop - to punish him into being a better player.

it just aint so, and 64% (its gone up) now think he should be outside the starting 11!!!!!

Dear People who voted, Baines is not as good a SOCCER player. Valente is steady but unspectacular. we will more games with Lescott, we did last year, we will again this year.

I agree completely mate, your spot on.

Ta Mate. We are in the minority though. Just yourself, teppic, Vim Fuego, me and david moyes (hopefully).

As far as I remember the only two games last seasons back four of Neville, Yobo, Jags and Lescott have been Stoke and Standard - shipping four goals in total.

2 goals caused by stoke's deadly and annoying long throw ins - one a jags own goal (no one is calling for him to be dropped???)

Another goal an own goal by Yobo (which had more to do with a lack of communication between Howard and Yobo - again no-one is calling for Howard or Yobo to be dropped from the starting 11 - strange)

One goal that was Lescott's fault.

If Setanta hadn't done that piece about lescott being at fault this wouldn't even be an issue now.

Still when Baines played we kept three clean sheets didn't we. Oh...

(we shipped seven, baines should deffo start.)

Such is the power of TV on weak minds.

That's what people seem to be forgetting. I like Baines, I think he has potential but when he was in the side he was a liability and far worse than Lescott in my opinion.

We need a settled team, a settled back four aswell. Neville, Yobo, Jagielka and Lescott is our best combination and given a run of games together I'm confident they'll get back to there best.

With the situation we are in we can't keep chopping and changing, especially with arguably the two biggest games of the season coming up (Standard and Liverpool).

Lescott is a very consistent player, he has very high standards and I have no doubts he will get better. He's an asset we can't afford to lose I'm afraid. He's had two games at left back, one good (Stoke) and one bad (Standard). He deserves another game or two to improve and get himself back to his best.

spot on.

I reckon he's too good a player not to have learnt from the first Liege match. He'll know how fast Dalmat is, he'll know they'll try and pull him out of position. He wont be so cavalier again.

Still, its a fine line. We need to score over there and we need to keep a clean sheet or at the very least draw 2-2 or 3-3. So Lescott will have to join in some attacks.

2 away goals for Standard are a mighty advantage.

Hopefully we can nick them 1-0 but I can see them scoring one way or another

4 games in to the season! 2 mistakes is not enough for me to want him dropped.

i wonder how most would feel if moyes plays him against hull, we keep a clean sheet and he scores a trademark 'mountfield' goal.

i guess this thread would just gather dust..

You sure about that?

He has made more than that this season. Let Santa Cruz in against Blackburn. Made 3-4 mistakes agaisnt Liege and thats just off the top of my head. All of which seemed to come from lack of concentration.

I'm not pointing that out to criticise him, just stating how i see it.

I'm in the don't drop him camp, think it will do more harm than good but there is no denying his mistakes this season have cost us goals. Sure some haven't but too many have so i fully understand why people would want him dropped even if i don't agree with them.

two mistakes that lead to goals that should have read. of course it's a bitch and i wish like every other evertonian we had kept a clean sheet in every game so far.

perhaps i am just seeing the bigger picture here.

lescott is not a new signing who has come in and made a couple of mistakes that lead to goals. in that case we would all be concerned if the guy would make it as an everton player.

but that is not so. lescott has proven over the last two seasons he is our best defender and in my opinion has always saved his best performances when played left back. quite why there is such a demand to push him in to the center and push jags out of the team is plain odd.

to bring baines in at the expense of jagielka or lescott would be poor decision making.

i did not see the piece on setanta that has had everyone clamoring for him to be dropped. i've just seen two years of fantastic defending in a blue shirt.

And several other mistakes in our defensive third that could cost us goals. He was lucky they didn't.Not being aware of players around him and dithering to allow them to get the ball in a dangerous area.

How does his performances last year make that any more acceptable? Its probably due to those performances that he hasn't already been dropped because Moyes (like all of us) know what a good defender he can be.

Shouldn't matter how good a player did play, if they cost the team goals then they need to be looked at and soemthing needs to be done. What that thing is no one knows for sure.

If people want him drop its for the good of the team, not some kneejerk reaction.

I just hope he comes good.

i'll tell you this. if he plays today and plays well, everyone will say it is out of his system and what a great player we knew he was all along.

i'm happy that moyes is in charge and not some of the posters here~!

Baines in for Lescott, I'll trust Moyes' jugement although I don't agree with it. He's the boss.(y)

I hope Baines gives a good account of himself.

Nor i mate, but i do like Baines. Get on him to score in Vbookie hasnt scored for us yet and has it in him. The positive side of this is i think our centre halfs have got a little cocky all being in the starting line up, no compitition like!

baines plays. well the public got what they wanted. i'd rather see lescott in there, but 100% behind baines today~!

coyb!
