Leighton Baines, a New Corinthian

Keep it in cold storage for a little while yet or until a new contract has been signed.
I think the next four months are vital in the future of Leighton Baines. We all know how persistent Moyes can be.If a new contract isn't in place before January I think he will be back to try to get LB and this time there won't be a Fellaini to act as a shield.

Top read that.

I just couldn't see him going, maybe it was a bit of my mind really not wanting him to go but if there is one player out there who you can be confident would not kick up a fuss to the point where you had to sell him it would be our Bainesy.

I have said for the last couple of years, ever since Bayern sniffed around, that the lad will retire with us. It may not come true or it may not even come close but it is not far fetched at all to think that he will not move regardless of the clubs that come in for him.

Excellent stuff Pat. I really enjoyed that.

Chico - was written mate , not was wrote. I know I'm being a grammar Nazi but it is on the home page of the site. You're as bad as Danny with 'Everton have saw...'.

Hate to be the glass half empty guy but IMO Baines would of gone if the club had given him the actual choice to decide whether to or not. He didn't kick up a fuss at the club hanging onto him, which in this day and age is something special in any case but he never came out saying he'd rather stay and sign a new contract.

Still excellent write up mate, let's hope he signs a new deal and is rewarded with something (a trophy) that makes him want to stay in future yrs. Have a bad feeling the inevitable has just been prolonged.

Top work that Pat. Nice bit of emotional primer before you get in to the meat of the issue. If Baines stays for the rest of his career He should be canonized and recounted as a guideline for future generations. Then maybe we can get football back to being about football again *crosses fingers in denial*.

Lovely piece that, Pat.

Almost as lovely as Leighton's hair:

"He basically was offered what most Premiership players would step over their theatrically rolling teammates for. And he said no. It wasn’t for him. "

Sorry to be a bore mate, but have you got a link or source for where its documented he turned them down? I'm genuinely interested as I just thought we hadn't accepted a bid rather than it was his choice?

Sorry mate, I have not.

Although it's more my interpretation of what happened leading up to the transfer more than anything.

Reading it back it could've been better worded as "by not putting in a transfer request, he effectively said no, it wasn't for him" rather than the literal way I've put it.

Onus really isn't on you, mate. He's been leaving (apparently) for, what, 3-4 seasons now? Yet, he's still here. Certain people just want to see him leave so they can say "told ya' so". After all the cr*p, it's now up to these same people to prove he hasn't turned the moves down.

Oh, and BTW... I heard you were leaving GOT in January mate. I know you've never said or done anything to prove it but yeah, that's a shame man.

To say he's not a winger, like Cahill is not a winger is ridiculous. OK, maybe winger is not Naismith's strongest posistion compared to being behind a striker BUT the lad has played Plenty of football off the wings. In Scotland he produced excellent performances from behind the striker OR off the wings!

He's simply not good enough making the step up to PL footy. The amount of top players we'v supposedly ruined due to not playing in there favoured role of "behind the striker" surely must be criminal!?!?
