It’s unlikely the PGMOL will fully clarify why he disallowed the goal because they’re a closer shop who will always protect their own - refs ruling refs.

Personally, I think he’s panicked when he has seen the WBA keeper not in the correct position, so has quickly blew again as he’s unsure of the rules.

At least in the rugby yesterday, where there was a slightly similar controversy, the ref stood by his decision; Mason just panicked and didn’t know what to do.

Apparently the VAR was for a possible sending off, not about the penalty award. He was obviously convinced that it wasn't a sending off so didn't look at it for long.

Another word class performance from Lee mason in the wba v Brighton game. I always shudder when I see his name down for one of our games. Is he the worst ref in English football or even the worst English ref ever?

tbh, it's a mass photo finish with English Reffs.
He does more tvety poor performances than most.

But any one of them on a given day could do just as bad...VAR has made it worse.

They haven't helped themselves by being a closed shop. If they were mic'd up, or even published their match reports, it would go a long way to help understand some of the bizarre decisions.

Take yesterday's debacle; we won't hear anything further about it, other than pundits giving their opinion. It was a horrendous gaffe and ignoring it will only make things worse.

If they were half decent and not corrupt/inept they wouldnt get the abuse they do.

they've created a rod for their own back as for decades they have favoured a select group of clubs creating a sense of entitlement from the fanbases of these clubs, while at the same time creating an atmosphere of distrust from the restof the clubs fanbases. Then the odd time they give decisions for the non favoured clubs they recive abuse from the entitled firm.

This is another damning thing about English refs. VAR is very good. It allows you to review incidents from different angles in cas you miss something. It's the refs that have managed to balls that up. Fans and pundits can all see pretty much immediately whether a decision is right or wrong, yet the professionals in charge can't?

Refs get away with all kinds of nonsense and don't have to answer to any of it publicly, It's an absolute farce how much these jokers get away with.
Start tasking them with some responsibility and consequences like everyone else in the goddamn sport.

Im not multi quoting here - im hearing what you’re putting down but seriously, theres no other profession where the speed of the people you police, the multiple interpretations of the rules and the absolute dogs abuse you’d recieve for any kind of error would put anyone off being a ref.

I’m not a ref and and guilty as charged for giving it to them down the years, but maybe I’ve mellowed, or come to the realisation that refs have always been the same... but now in super slow mo multiple angled replay HD the technology highlights the gulf of what has always been.

I think they actually might need two on field referees at the game now like in Rugby. Who knows what the answer is- but anyone expecting perfect officiating should get ready for lots more stoppages.
