The Royal Hotel - Netflix.

Could’ve been a solid 8/10 if they hadn’t bottled the end.

The always good Julia Garner plays a Canadian gap year backpacker in Australia, when her and her mate run out of money and end up working behind the bar at a flea pit Outback hotel.

The hotel bars only customers are local rednecks and miners from a local town and things pretty soon turn nasty for them.

The way the tension is built up and the sense of creeping dread, that something very bad is going to happen is excellent. Julia Garner and Hugo Weaving as the drunken waste of space who owns the hotel is excellent too.

However, the film builds itself up for something really really bad to happen at the end and they bottle it, going for a “ lighter “ ending, which feels like a cop out.

Still worth a watch though.

Wasn't this based on real-life events?

Who thought the guy that voice overs the screwfix adverts would make a convincing demon in 'the pope's exorcist'?

This effort got more laughs than anything else. I sincerely hope Crowe has kept up with his exorcism knowledge, because when I finally meet him he can expunge the memory of this accidental ham full of comedy. A nonsense out of ten. An actual sin.

'The Creator' premier on channel 4 now. They've got the guy that does the screwfix ads in this, gruffly playing some military type. Stars the lead from Tenet. I'm not holding out a lot of hope here.

Real bad, pretty looking but there's nothing there. Could make this film using parts of others scene for scene. A role call of sci fi rip offs.

zero annoying super powered children with no powers out of ten. Avoid.

A genuine shocker.
How's he done it, he signed up for one mind fudge with tenet and doubled down with this nonsense. It's so many parts of so many other films. But it's impossible to care about either lead, because they don't get explained enough to follow what they want and how it unfolds. What's with the big Tron floating ship destroying things? is it knocking out machines or humanity? Is it playing off bladerunner and the kid is the unholy human human robot offspring? Such nonsense.
