Last Film You Watched

Had a bit of a binge this weekend. In reverse order:

Serpico - I'm working my way through Sidney Lumet's films. This one is..OK, not up there with 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon or Network.

Force Awakens - I know it's New Hope the remix but it's still rollicking good fun, the first hour is properly brilliant. I'd forgotten how excellent Boyega and Ridley are, instantly likeable characters.

Gone Girl - good enough adaptation of a book I didn't much enjoy to be honest.

Gods of Egypt - woeful film. Utterly without merit. This guy directed Dark City FFS.

A Girl Walked Home Alone At Night - brilliant, very original vampire flick. Up there with Near Dark and Let The Right One In.

The Hateful Eight - can't say I didn't enjoy it but I wish he'd stop making the same film, it's exactly what you expect from 'Tarantino makes a western'.

Flopped a bit this didn't it? I was hoping it might be an underrated gem. Nope. Incoherent, cartoonish, charmless mess of a film with a stunningly uncharismatic lead performance from the Dehaan lad. Cara Delevingne tries her best and provides the one or two decent moments, and she's very pretty, but bless her, she ain't gonna save this overblown soufflé. Leeloo Dallas Multipass this ain't...

Just returned from a double bill of The Room and The Disaster Artist. That’s my 6th time watching The Room and it is never not funny. The Disaster Artist is a worthy and hilarious documentation of the making of possibly the worst film ever made. Not a big James Franco fan but him and his brother are incredible in this. Definitely check out The Disaster Artist even if you haven’t seen The Room before, well worth it.

I'll be avoiding that. I watched Lucy a few months back and that was pretty poor and had me suspecting Besson was past his best and this seems to confirm it.

Went watching The Room on Saturday night and enjoyed the audience participation. I'll remember to take plastic spoons next time. Got a feeling I'll have to catch The Disaster Artist pretty quick as it didn't make the box office top 10 so it'll be whipped off screens pretty sharpish.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Feels like I'll have to watch this twice to give it a proper score, but right now it feels like a 7/10. Enjoyed most of it, but it had some flaws (most of them pretty minor, one side story arc I didn't like). Won't write anything else to avoid spoilers
