Last Film You Watched

The lady killers is an old school one I still enjoy, some great actors in there, and the remake definitive proof that tom hanks is not on alec guiness's level as an actor

Have you seen The Lavender Hill Mob too? Think I might even prefer it, although both are brilliant.

Somebody mentioned the Ealing comedies in the comedy thread and I think I'm gonna rewatch a few of them soon.

I don't think it will, Oscar wise, it's out a bit too early and it has actually flopped a bit at the box office.

That being said, I can't imagine many Weinstein films will get nominated this year.

It's not going to make big bucks because it's over the head of a lot of today's cinema goers.

They're used to 1hr 40 max of CGI bombs, explosions etc.

This is way too beautiful and thought provoking.

That's why it's such a brave piece of film making.

They haven't sacrificed the essence of the first one, over raking the cash in.

It's a long long time since a studio did this.

It'll make its money slowly, over time, rather in one big rush, like the block busters.

Watched the original on Wednesday and then went to the cinema for the new one. A thoroughly enjoyable almost 6hrs spent in the blade runner universe even if both are very slow in parts.

I was amazed by how great the first one looked and then by how beautiful the new one is. I think across the two movies there's hundreds of images you could imagine as stills and up on your wall. The cinematography and lighting is incredible.

I might go see this again to be honest, it's a sight to behold on a massive 4k screen.

Spot on.

The imagery in the first one is richer and more colourful, where as the new one is stark and monochrome, which suits it perfectly.

My head was full of the images when I was going to sleep.

It's just a wonderful wonderful film.

Transporting 2 followed by Trainspotting the day after, I know the wrong way round, but I just had to see which film was the best... Trainspotting the original but only just, much more harrowing. Ewan Bremner does look like he's had a lifetime of hard drugs, during the second film, can't help sticking up for him though, great performance.

Just got in from watching Blade Runner 2049, it's MAGNIFICENT and well worth the thirty five year wait.

It's stayed 100% true to the original, which is a very brave piece of film making, as it'll mean nothing at all to vast swathes of the younger generation.

Also at nearly three hours long, this rules the bucket of popcorn / no attention span audience out too.

Ryan Gosling is perectly cast as the lead and the cinematography is just mind blowing, coupled with the Vangelis like soundtrack.

If the original Blade Runner hadn't been made and this was a stand alone film, it'd be hailed as a classic.

If I'm going to be hyper critical, it lacked the rich visual beauty of the first one and went for a more mono chrome, bleakness, which makes it slightly less of a spectacle.

I felt like I'd been watching it for 10 mins, not nearly 3 hrs.

I found the ending very emotional too and just like the original, it left you with a question hanging - " what was Dekard to K / Joe ".

Simply an amazing film and I'll be going back to watch it again very soon.
+1, but I was disappointed with The Odeon calling it an IMAX presentation, it may have been the IMAX print but that's not an IMAX screen as I remember.

Have to disagree with the brilliant blade runner 2049 reviews...

I missed the start as a bunch of Koreans kept shining their phones which massively distracted me...

The story was very good but extremely slow...at the end I was like..."oh, ok"...not emotionally invested in it...

Not a patch on the first one I thought...

Will give it another viewing though just because its 'Blade Runner'...

Also the ending was really odd...just sets up a third movie imo.

It's a masterpiece Zat and you'll appreciate this on the next viewing I'm sure.

I felt like I'd been in there for ten mins, not nearly three hours.

As for the ending, sheer genius, leaving the viewer with a hanging question.

Original Blade Runner.

" Is Dekard a Replicant "

Blade Runner 2049, leaves you with another hanging question

" what is Dekard to K / Joe "

Also to find away to bring Rachel back almost had me on the floor ( even if it was a fake ).

It's just a truly incredible film.

It felt super long to me...perhaps with audience distractions (Asians excl Japanese always find ways to annoy in the cinema) which broke it up a heck of a lot.

I think without giving away spoilers, that the question you pose was simply the emotional rollercoaster which joe went through (if that makes sense).

Yes, I don't think it was any more than that.
