The long awaited ashtonian movie review is here!
Suicide squad.
Went into this with a lot of negative reviews to be honest, i didn't expect much of it from the get go and probably spent the whole time trying to find the issues with the film. To be honest? I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best film ever but i thought it was a fun film with likable characters and a fairly easy to follow plot.
the positives.
The characters, deadshot and harley were obviously made stand out characters and both actors were fantastic. I also enjoyed the streamline approach to the film, simplified over some massive roaming story, keep it exclusive to a small area to justify letting criminals loose. Some funny lines, and cool moments put in there.
the negatives.
Introducing the characters. Spend so long introducing characters only to then give them next to no screen time! Boomerang croc el diablo, may as well have not been in the movie for most of it. There was one moment where katana is introduced and they mention her sword before moving on, her sword alone is 100 times more interesting than captain boomerang!
Another irk i had was the joker scene. Just struck me as shoe horning the joker into the movie with no rhyme or reason to. Just have him show up a few times, which made me dislike leto's joker a little. He didn't strike me as that character, more just a gangster with green hair.
finally i think the other big let down was to be honest the villan. again with next to no explanation into motives or anything, just casually mentioning something then keeping them off screen for the rest of the movie? Some of the editing was incredible that i did notice. Walking up stairs it cuts to joker and harley jumping in the chemicals, except zero context as to why that is important. They spent the first half an hour telling you about these characters as if you don't know them, before random cut to something without context!
Overall, i didn't hate it, could pick at it more but i enjoyed the film as a filler for 2 hours or whatever it was.
6/10
Side note- why is EVERY dc film horribly paced?
