Last Film You Watched

One good one from Nolan was the prestige. Really well made film that although isn't the greatest, was very well constructed when you take the whole meaning of the film. Not many people seemed to pick up on that though which is odd.

aye, that's the one I meant about the magicians...got it on dvd, will get a go at some point.

the only director where i've really enjoyed every film has been Kubrick, and there's still about 4 to go before I've seen them all.

From the films I've seen, I'd put Kubrick at number 1 but there's so much tasty output from the likes of your Scorsese, Tarantino, Polanski, Boorman, Park, Cuaron, Coppola, Gilliam, Fincher, Ridley Scott & PT Anderson. They may have the odd duffer but mostly their films offer a consistent style which I really like. Nolan's style I just don't quite warm to.

Good Lord the Movie thread has been taken over by some absolute Heathens.

Batman Begins better than Dark Knight? Big Fish? Kontroll?? Grosse Point Blank???

Grimsby funny????

*Goes for a Lie down

I'd tag The Equalizer (the one with Edward Woodward as a profile pic) but he seems to have disappeared.

Who said that, Mac?

Wasn't it you? *edit oh Returns!

I loathed Dark Knight after watching it at the Cinema, hated it. Picked it apart ruthlessly. But then on rewatching it on TV - something about it clicks and on review it's basically the perfect Batman film. Give it another go.

I didn't mind the plot being daft, especially with an antagonist like the Joker...but did find it dull at times, the characters being mostly bland didn't help, and lots of explosions dull my senses too when they're overdone.

Regarding the fantasy genre, the trick is to avoid the big blockbusters...mostly bollocks. Try these fantasy films, if you haven't already:

Excalibur
Kontroll
Paperhouse
Save the Green Planet
Big Fish
Perfume

Excalibur.was one of the best movies of all time.

Should attempt a remake as its a bit dated now...
