Speaking of masterpieces, this gem from 1992 is a delight.

And it's on UK terrestrial at 9pm tonight on 'Great! TV' (freeview 34)

Somehow the bbc has the rights to 'the good the bad and the ugly' which is on bbc2 at 10pm (was on the cowboy channels 2 weeks ago) die hard on E4 at 9pm, tombstone on film4 at 9pm,

Love that film - think I've probably mentioned it before but Simon Russell Beale's performance during the arrest and execution of Beriya is absolutely tremendous.

And Jason Isaacs makes one of the greatest entrances in cinema history.
He had to drop the number of medals to make it more believable.Zhukov apparently wore a fair few more.

Watched 2010: The Year We Make Contact, the sequel to 2001 which I had also just watched. 2001 is an outstanding piece of film and one of the best looking films I've ever seen, so no need to go into that.

But I had never known 2010 existed until I wiki'd Space Odyssey last week, and I wasn't expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised. Roy Scheider, Helen Mirren and John Lithgow are the highlights of a great cast and the film, while much different in tone and execution than 2001, stands on its own as an excellent sci-fi story. I suspect it suffered from comparisons to its predecessor, but I have to say I really loved it
