Scoop - Netflix.

This was much better than I thought it would.

Dramatisation of the events leading up to the car crash interview with Prince Andrew, over the Epstein scandal on Newsnight.

Rufus Sewell is fantastic as Andrew, as is Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, with a really good supporting cast.

A surprisingly good Netflix film, that I think won tv awards.

Why not? They've got face melting super-naturalism in the og trilogy? That's ok but aliens isn't??
Lol, well in every movie they pushed the limit, I guess...
Arc of the Covenant - Face Melting
Temple of Doom - Ripping out a dude's heart, and it's still beating, and he's still alive
The Last Crusade - 700-year-old Knight Templar still alive and kicking...

But Aliens?!? Naaaah. It just doesn't fit in Indiana for me. It's an adventure film. If you want aliens, there's a million other franchises from Predator to Star Trek where you can get your fill! 🤣🤣🤣

The 1st magnificent 7, I had watched the newer one a while back, but hadn't seen the Yul Brenner one for years, it sounds daft but you were more invested in the characters in this one, the remake seemed for more polishes but you didn't really care what happened to the characters in that
I enjoyed the remake. I thought it was pretty decent. You can't go wrong with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke in the same cast!

That scene where Denzel turns to Hawke and says:

Was quite epic!

Wait a minute... 🤔
No, no, that sounds about right.

I didn't mind the new one , as I said the acting etc seemed a lot more professional, it just didn't have the same connection with the characters, may just be a nostalgia thing

I liked the new one, and thought the woman was good. Actually have more of a problem with them time-travelling than there being aliens in The Crystal Skull!

No, I understand where you’re coming from, mate.

Yul Brenner was one tough SOB. So were most of the actors from his era.
They don’t make them like that anymore!

Haha oops, sorry! :D
Lol… No stress, mate. 😜
For me, time travel trumps aliens, so it can only be better!

Speaking of which, I've been putting off watching the new Indiana Jones for a while now...

Any comments before I take the plunge, lads?!
It's alright. Has it's moments but doesn't stand up to Indy at it's best. I think it got a lot of bad takes because the female lead wasn't a character who was simply there to give Indy someone to rescue, explain stuff to and then bed. Really seems to aggravate some internet critics.

I even saw one take that was genuinely angry over Indy being portrayed as a bit of a sad divorcee type in a messy apartment which was deemed a lazy woke attack on men. Ignoring the fact that the character has never held down a relationship and was always the messy desk organised chaos type of guy.

2001 is crap though, in the same way that 1920s cars are crap compared to today's. It paved the way for more glorious movies but let's be honest it's now tedious pretentious shabbite. Give me Interstellar anyday.
I reckon 2001 is a monumentally great film but then just fluffs the landing with a complete nothing ending which requires all kinds of mental gymnastics to 'interpret'. It confirms me as a thicko but I really can't stand it when films do that open to interpretation 'the clues are all there' kind of ending.

Can forgive it though as it has Leonard Rossiter wrestling with a Russian accent, occasionally giving up halfway through a sentence and then starting with it again.

Interstellar does looks amazing and is a great ride until it cops out with future deus ex super human bookcase magic. And though it came out before The Martian seeing Matt Damon pop up really takes you out of it.

Couple of films watched over the weekend

Went the cinema to watch the Bob Dylan movie.......... meh!
Some good acting in it and the music is obviously decent, but not really much of a story went on, without spoiling it for others, he became famous, wrote some songs, wanted to go away from folk music, so he did.

Think in general we are in danger of 'over doing' the musical biopic films recently, Walk the Line, Ray & 8 Mile (semi autobiographical) were all at the time excellent and told an interesting/good story about the person away from the music.
Feel the ones getting churned out now are basically, 'i liked music, i made some music, i got famous, i possibly did some drugs, i left my girlfriend/boyfriend for an upgrade, i was unhappy, i am now old and happy'
Whitney, Elton John, Queen, NWA, Elvis were all a little samey despite them actually having interesting lives, they all seemed a bit fluffy

TBF, they did try to give 2001 a few revamps over the years...

But it never really took off. 🤷‍♂️

Eh why does the Netflix poster look like his face is melting off

I am also sick to the back teeth of biopics, all of em. Firstly let the person at least be dead. Give us a bit of time to grieve them. 'Amy' was alright, 'sex and drugs and rock and roll' alright as well. The people need to be interesting, struggling through adversity. Give us something funny or heartfelt or courageous. Fawning I can do without. I wonder who is being lined up to play Billy Connolly.
Coogan has made a few of these, he's been 'Tony Wilson', 'Phil Green', 'Paul Raymond'. tbf I thought there were a few more.

Completely forgot about Amy, that was one i would put on my 'not really that interesting' list.
Bob Marley was another, despite him doing so much in his life, they managed to omit most of that to make it your typical Biopic story.
The 2pac & Biggie films separately were both absolutely terrible, despite there being so much good stuff made about those two before and since.

Think the majority of these have a family member as executive producer so ends up being abit fluffy.

What have we got coming up? Michael Jackson? The Beatles? How interesting will there story's be? More of the same i presume
