Last Film You Watched

I enjoyed this, pretty funny in places. Forrest Gump - like misfits club together to form unlikely alliances at school and beyond. Nice 70's vibe (if rather glossing over some social issues prevalent even today) and good enough entertainment for a lock down Saturday early evening ...

Watched a great film last night, Prisoners, a thriller about 2 little girls who get kidnapped, with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Its a long film but i never once looked at the time, which is a good sign, highly recommened if you like thrillers but dont watch it if you are stuggling with any lockdown isolation!!

Great film.

Wish jackman would focus more on that type of role. With this and Logan he put in 10/10 performances

It is a good film, a really good film in fact. I'm a big fan of Gyllenhaal whom I think can be somewhat underrated when you compare him to De Caprio and Matt Damon, I think they are his fair contemporaries. But yes, Jackman shines in this. Also, Paul Dano starring is usually a good thing for a film, but I have yet to see him widen his range from someone either slightly unsettling, disturbed, or disturbing.

Yeah, I’ve got love and mercy to watch there with dano playing Brian wilson so that’ll be interesting.

He’s kind of the go to guy when you want a slightly deranged character who doesn’t speak. See little miss sunshine.

Gyllenhall is great. His performance in this reminded me of his role in zodiac.

Eclectic mix for me today.

Crazy, stupid love- So this is where all those Ryan gosling memes come from. Nice film. Better than the majority of rom coms you see.

Citizen Kane- Dont need to say much on this but it was on BBC2 earlier in the day so had to watch. Incredible how relevant it still is to this day.

King of comedy- Finally got my hands on a blu ray of this. Loved it, one of De Niro’s best performances.

On Gyllenhaal, I watched Jarhead recently, a very good film that holds its own against some of the earlier (post vietnam) war films like Full Metal Jacket and Heartbreak Ridge. It is nearly always the training camp / drill sergeant sequences that immerse the viewer into the shock of the wake up call that is army life and Jarhead does not disappoint.

There is a reflection of the duality of man concept that is a constant thread throughout F.J.M. but here it is only really notable toward the end of the film when he is going home on the bus and subsequently visiting his former platoon buddies. That said, you will only really notice this concept in F.J.M. (other than Pvt Joker's direct quote) if you understand Jungian pyschology, or if you find the obvious physical connection between Animal Mother and Private Pile.
(yeah, go look again)

The Limehouse Golem - Not sure how I stumbled across this, probably best explained as a gritty version of the Downey/Law Sherlock Holmes series? Olde London was done well, although it wasn't really "one of the characters" as I'd imagined from the trailer. Nearly gave up a few times because it was kind of odd, but the actors/characters held it together well. I have no idea if I'd recommend it or not, the longer it went on I knew it wasn't my cup of tea, yet it was interesting enough to watch to the end...

Wind River - The theme a little grim (one bit I outright skipped), but a very good movie. Renner and Olsen do a solid job here, even the smaller characters were well done and memorable... and that includes Renner's rifle! 8/10

Extraction - Pretty much what you'd expect, generic action flick fun slipping into John Wick territory at times with some of the accuracy skills / magazine sizes. Credit where it's due though; a 3rd person view car chase was new to me, and a really good continuous shot scene through a building. If there is a sequel, I'd be a lot more interested in a story of his handler / ex(?) based purely on the brief scene at the end. 6.5/10

Wind River is one of those films that for some reason went under the radar when it came out.

It`s a very very good film and even now doesn`t get the credit it deserves ( imo )

It must`ve been very difficult to film too, with the weather and the terrain.

The chemistry between Renner and Olsen is one of the things that makes it work so well.
