Last Film You Watched

Not everyone is going to like this. One of those private detective films were the flawed but basically decent PI narrates on and off throughout the film. Every cliche from previous such films is repeated and you will probably guess what is coming next throughout. I really enjoyed it. Dodgy deals and "dirty deeds done dirt cheap" and John Travolta again gets the chance for a short dance...

Hands down longest film I’ve ever seen. Swear I pressed play last week!

I mean, personally criminal if that beats Joker to an Oscar. I thought the story was interesting with De Niro and a few other characters well acted but personally felt the timeline was impossible to keep up with. I’d have enjoyed it more with a simple yearly time stamp at the beginning of scenes. His daughter went from about 8 to 38 and De Niro barely aged. Pretty good film but too long and not a genre I care much for.

I didn’t realise it was all a true story though so I’ll be spending a few hours routing around Wikipedia now.

It’s good but not Godfather levels of good.

Maybe 45 mins too long.

is it me or The Irishman is pretty mediocre?

The majority of the film is De Niro playing a 40-50 year old but he looks 60. I think it's the confusion around the timeline and his age that is a pretty big flaw that they couldn't really address with changing the script, or investing in the technology completely.

Second complaint is that it's Scorsese without any of the real dynamism of his previous mob films. It's very made for TV.

The third is no Ray Liotta. Other than that I enjoyed it, but it's no masterwork.

Also can anyone help me with this bit:

What phonecall do we think he’s referring to with the vicar at the end? One of the payphone ones to Hoff near the end? When he says “what kind of man can make a phone call like that” or something.
To his wife
Ohhh yes, completely forgot about that, makes sense now.

His or the other blokes?
