Blue Ruin

Enjoyed it, even has Buzz from Home Alone in it. He has “grown” shall we say.

Been watching a lot of independent films lately and enjoyed most of them. Recommend Blue Ruin for the vigilante film fan.

Sounds like you’d like this then.

A young woman wakes up chained in a basement, manages to over power her captor and escape. However she finds evidence in the house, that other women are being kept elsewhere, as part of an organised sex traffficking ring.
She then goes full on Charles Bronson in Death Wish, looking for the other women.

Tina Ivlev ( relative unknown ) is superb in the lead. It’s incredibly, brutal, dark and violent as she seeks revenge and justice. It’s low budget, but this doesn’t detract from it at all.

Think of an 18 yr old girl playing Charles Bronsons role in Death Wish, very well and you’re getting there.

Second time watching this. Enjoyed it again. Great soundtrack and the pacing of the film is great. The set up of the narrative is quite straight forward but the story takes some.. interesting (bizarre) turns but it’s a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and has some amusingly dark set pieces.

Also watched this. A great companion piece to Taxi Driver- the same writer (Paul Schrader who also directs this) and very similar themes. George C Scott plays a very religious businessman whose daughter goes missing whilst on a trip with her church to California. Frustrated by the police’s efforts to find her he travels to California and immersed himself in the world of pornography in order to locate her.

Not as good as Taxi Driver, probably because Scorsese isn’t directing, but it’s a great 70’s crime film in its own way. Seedy and depraved but in the best possible way.

One to watch out for on the Horror Channel.

A family of Cannibals, struggle to keep their secret hidden in a small town in rural America.

Beautifully filmed, well acted, particularly the kids, thoughtful and not your usual slasher cannibal film.
