Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry

Fair enough, I think that's a sugar coated version of his performance myself. That Chelsea team was so easy to play against and with the loanees and players he had at Derby I'd call that an underperformance.

Fair play to him for sticking at management, clearly wants the challenge. I think he's a million miles away from being a decent manager myself.
Well, we'll see how he goes on, best of luck to him and yeah fair play for sticking to it. Maybe he improved, we'll see soon enough.

Think he actually underachieved at Derby.

Had Tomori, Mount, Huddlestone, Ashley Cole, Harry Wilson.

Some half decent championship players like Bryson and Keogh.

Spent a fortune and they should have probably done better league wise.

Although at the time i did think they'd done quite well.
As we know, you can spend all you want and it guarantees zilch.

You've sca(r)red him properly I hope
I was quite even handed I feel.

Emphasised that he was genuinely likeable and made an effort to, and did, 'get' the fans and the club. His approach was a much needed antidote to El Gordo.

But, tactically and as a coach, was found lacking. His style is a motivator which works for some players but didn't gel a cohesive team or style or achieve any consistency.

Mind you, which of our managers have done the latter in recent times?

Consistently? No one I think, Carlo was kind of close but then Real Madrid was a possibility and he kinda gave up.

Frank tried to play some actual football but I don't think he had the managerial capacity to make it work (or the personnel really, with us) in the exact way he wanted in the Prem.

Maybe he'll do better for Coventry though, I'm not familiar with their team or old setup or anything like that so who knows.

Rooney vs Lampard is a boxing day fixture apparently, and they're currently with the same record points wise, so that could be interesting as far as ex-player managerial comparisons go?

Yeah same - at the time it seemed like it was okay, at least that was part of the copium when we hired him too I guess.

Those players are very good... now. At the time they were young and there to gain match experience (and Chelsea players too obviously which got them there ), and Cole and Huddlestone I believe didn't play a lot.

It's not like they've set the world alight either before or after him to be honest.

Didn't they reach a cup final or something too? I know Tuchel got hired after they'd already won their CL group and all that as it was memed on for quite some time, but only remember he played a thousand academy players in his first season
Yeah that’s true tbf. The signs were already there though that season imo, like losing to relegated teams and being wide open defensively in certain games
