Transfer Rumour Lamine Kone

Crying shame really. Wasn't it an injury that stopped his progression ? I would love to see us keep him, He was deffo the brightest young star for me anyways in a very dull season.
Anyways...Kone ?? are we still in with a shout ?

Not sure mate, just know once he dropped out the starting 11 he basically dissapeared off the planet - he didn't have any majory injury for sure

As much as I'd like him to come to us, would love to see clubs stop pandering to these spoiled brats.

That scene where the lads stop him outside the training ground. He's all poor me, "they promised me a contract & they've given me nothing"......

He signed a FOUR YEAR contract in January, which was no doubt double what he was getting in France & more per week than those kids see in a year! (If they even have jobs).

It needs to stop. We need a revolution! Ideally after Usmanov takes over & we win the Champions League.

Off for a lie down.
If your work promised you a new contract doubling your wage, then they gave you nothing, would see your arse and leave for a better company who would pay you double? yes or no.

It's all up when a Sunderland player is "using" Everton to strengthen his hand in contract negotiations :(

With all due respect mate, we aren't a small club ourselves. Everton are a big club, but have only won one trophy in the last 30 years. To a 27yo Ivorian who's played his entire career in France, it will likely come down to whether or not the money is right. He won't give a damn if you finished top 8 ten years in a row recently. It's not the way the modern player thinks.

He's been publically promised his contract, in a fortnights time when we've sorted out some more important things.

We are still far bigger than Sunderland so it will matter.

Exactly, at the end of the window when it would all be on Sunderlands terms, who does that? if they were going to offer him what he wanted, they would have done it by now.

Then why not at least offer him a new contract and start negotiations now? I can't fathom the logic of withholding until after the window. They ought to show the player they mean business if they want him to stay.

Maybe it's similar to our situation with Stones that@the Esk talked about. We needed to increase our income stream to be able to spend and increase wages. Maybe Sunderland need to do the same and sell abig name and then be able to buy players.

If he didn't get what he wanted, he would be in a strop for four months and then away in January. It's a nonsense to suggest that SAFC could simply say "ha ha, the window is closed now, so get stuffed". Let's not forget that Sunderland would be well within their rights to dig their heels in here, and make him honour the five year contract he signed in January. Our squad is threadbare and we need to bring six or seven players in over the next two weeks - that's a much higher priority than a new contract for someone who's already tied down until 2020 and has only been here six months. He seems to have finally gotten his head around that as there's been no further agitation from his agent since we promised the contract publically on Friday.

Why will it matter? I know some fans like to play the "big club" top trumps game, but in the modern era do players really give a [Poor language removed]?
I think players look at the area they will live in, the ambition of the club, the quality of the team and their wages in no specific order... and Everton strongly out do Sunderland in all them aspects

He's had £70k+ dangled in front of his maggot agent (McKay by proxy i.e. his lad) by us apparently.

Are you seriously going to put that level of contract in front of him on the 1st Sept?

I'm sure a premier league club can work on 2 things at once mate, I don't think the 'we've got other priorities' is a valid excuse for not offering him a contract earlier.. you wouldn't drag it on, which could have a negative effect on the teams performance if you had no intention of selling and every intention of giving him what he wants.
