Transfer Rumour Lamine Kone

I'm sure a premier league club can work on 2 things at once mate, I don't think the 'we've got other priorities' is a valid excuse for not offering him a contract earlier.. you wouldn't drag it on, which could have a negative effect on the teams performance if you had no intention of selling and every intention of giving him what he wants.

It's not going to be a case of print the contract off and sign it. His agent is heavily involved and it will take time to hammer out the details - time we don't have this month as there are bigger things to sort out.

Aye Galloway just fell off the radar after a good start, no idea what went on there, but all the rumours are he's off to geordieland on loan with an option to buy...
The season long loan makes great sense, I was not aware of the suggestion of the option to buy. I don't think that is a good idea and would be surprised if true.
If nothing else I think Galloway could make a very good left back after he gains even more experience.

I'm not at all sure he wants to leave - I think he just wants a bigger contract. He's now been publically promised that contract and can obviously expect it, as the Club aren't going to publically promise that and then renege on it. The whole thing just stinks of his agent trying to up the pressure and extract this new contract. First he turns up in Merseyside, at the same time the fact that he was "promised" a new contract but is still waiting for the offer is leaked to the press, then a fabled interest from Chelsea is leaked to the press, then we get this "transfer request" handed to Sky Sports. A day later, SAFC publically commit to a new contract for him and lo-and-behold, his head is back in the right place - he plays 90 minutes the next day and tells the manager that the "transfer request" had nothing to do with him.

We should be in a decent financial position as it is. As set out in my earlier post in this thread, we've got 11-12 senior players off the books already since May, who will account for about £500k per week off the wage bill. We've also got the same bumper TV money as everyone else this year and have not spent a great deal of that yet.

It's still possible that Kone will go, but it's less likely every day. Two weeks now until the window shuts and I can't see us selling him to re-invest, if we don't have time to re-invest properly.

If there hadn't been talks with Everton mate then I'd be inclined to agree wholly with you. However, there have been, and as there has been no accusation of 'tapping up' at all then we can only presume that Sunderland gave us permission to speak with Kone, at the least.

I think he probably would stay, but the fact that Sunderland are basically refusing to give him a deal until after the window leaves it very open mate.

But I'm not saying you need to sell, or that this deal is definitely ON. It's 50/50 at the moment in my opinion

As much as I'd like him to come to us, would love to see clubs stop pandering to these spoiled brats.

That scene where the lads stop him outside the training ground. He's all poor me, "they promised me a contract & they've given me nothing"......

He signed a FOUR YEAR contract in January, which was no doubt double what he was getting in France & more per week than those kids see in a year! (If they even have jobs).

It needs to stop. We need a revolution! Ideally after Usmanov takes over & we win the Champions League.

Off for a lie down.
Thing is though mate, and I get were you are coming from. If you are made a promise in work that is broken you're going to get the hump. Doesn't matter if you're on minimum wage or 5m a year.

Nobody has broken any promises - on the contrary, the Club have now announced very publically that he will get his contract in two weeks' time, once we have sorted out the more pressing matter of our transfer incomings.
