Lack of a striker isn’t our problem.

Not sure it matters who our midfielders are trying to pick out from within our own area, it's only going a few yards because he will be in our area too. We don't get past the half way line and we wouldn't if we had Ronaldo or Messi up front. Bunch of cowards till the second half... Trying to defend a 2-0 defeat for the first 45 minutes until one of the subs comes on and puts a little effort into going forwards.

Well again, it was a position that Koeman mentioned quite a lot.

But look at City, they went out and bought abar 20 FBs this Summer, oh how we all scratched our heads, the modern fullback is VITAL within the new systems teams play this "era".

Love the boy Baines, but hes not Baines 2010 no more.

aren't they playing a centre mid as one of them though mate?

In fact united play a converted winger, city a converted centre mid, the rs where playing milner, and chelsea play another converted attacking mid in valencia.

seems half the modern fullbacks aren't even fullbacks anymore :P

Not my fault Mendy snapped his knee FFS.

I absolutely despise the xG nonsense but the thing is the overall point is partially true. We don't create enough chances and that isn't entirely the fault of the strikers. Looking at just Oumar he basically has scrapped for 3 of his 4 goals. The only one actually set up for him was the throughball by Davies for the first vs Bournemouth. Dom on the other hand has missed some decent chances but still it is maybe 1 a game for him. This is why I don't quite get not playing guys like Lookman, recently Vlasic and Lennon who for his faults has had a long career of being relatively consistent on the wing for decent sides.

... and a massively less able team behind them.

Fair enough. For the record, I think Niasse specifically has done a good job since being reintroduced to the team. Neither him nor Rooney can replace the impact Lukaku had statistically or in terms of how he opened up space for some of our other attacking players. He drew way more attention from defenders than Rooney and Niasse do.

I think it's a bit hard to judge the ability of our attack when we don't play the right folks. If we came out with Vlasic/Siggy/Lookman and Rooney or Oumar in front of them, or even friggin Sandro, for a couple games and generated nothing, then okay. I'm sure if healthy, Bolaisse/Siggy/Barkley would be a pretty decent group as well.

That being said, we don't have a target type player that could hold the ball up. I can't argue with that. DCL isn't it, yet, and it would be good to have that type of options against certain teams - Giroud, Slimani, Dost, Jose, etc.

However, we DEFINITELY know we need a CB and likely a LB. We've tried everyone back there and no one can do the job. No one. Jags got abused against Watford and we've seen how bad Williams looks. Unless we seriously want to give Besic a chance - god help us - I think we are out of options.

Honestly, add a tall CB that's good in the air and a target guy who is also good in the air...man, that would make our free kicks considerably more dangerous. Siggy can still serve a ball from a set piece. We'd get a handful of goals alone from set pieces.

Since we haven't kept a clean sheet since August 12th it's pretty clear that our defence is a major problem. In fact, anyone with eyes knows that. On top of that, seeing our defenders and midfielders turning round and passing the ball to Pickford because there's simply no option up front shows that we're deficient there as well.

I said before/during/after the summer window we needed a left back and two centre backs.

Clearly obvious with limited pace we cant play a high line and if we cant play a high line our players will be further from the opposition goal.

Not rocket science....
Exactly, that's the main issue right there plus we are missing Barkley and the players signed to replace him aren't up to it. Start with the spine, start with the goalie and work up the pitch.
