Current Affairs Labour and Anti Semitism.......

To be honest, it goes without saying that the Tories are inherently racist. They're commonly known as the "Nasty Party" for a reason. Remember the "If you want an N-word for a neighbour, vote Liberal or Labour" - very little has happened to suggest they aren't exactly the same.

I think the fuss made over Labour being anti-semitic is that they aren't supposed to be inherently racist. So it's a story when they are uncovered to be exactly that in relation to Jews.

I think that's all it is - a "Tories racist" headline is simply mundane, as sad as that is. It's to be expected.

Indeed, it’s like saying ‘Labour are incompetent’, not in the least newsworthy because everyone knows it’s true......

Even when they make a complete horlicks of something, it’s infinitely better than Labour would have done.......

Just to point out once again Pete, since the modern Tory Party came into being in 1832 they have taken us from being the dominant nation on the planet to being a country where a firm stockpiles body parts to save on incineration fees.

I think you’ll find that it was Labour that gave away the Empire.......

Every political party makes errors, I think the main difference is that the Tories make errors while presiding over polices which make a significant proportion of people's lives much worse.

It's ok to ignore, deprive and demonise vulnerable people so long as you do it with a veneer of 'doing what's right for the country'.

Peteblue... you know I like you but come on mate.... you’re getting torn apart with your “I’m alright jack” viewpoint on a daily basis now. Why not enjoy your retirement supping ale and avoiding Everton games my friend.

It wouldn’t be the same though.....

I have a theory that Pete is actually a revolutionary disaster Marxist. He advocates for the status-quo to prevail as to create the sort of atmosphere in which, far more radical, socialist theory can be explored through the mainstream.

Playing the long game, but I can see it Pete. Time to come clean.

Can't believe that I'm going to do this, but that's a hugely unjust thing to just assume.

I've been told stories of horrific levels of homophobia and racism in the trade union movement, and it's important that we accept that happened and in doing so reject the potential of it happening again.

As for the Tories, if they're serious about becoming a far more "accepting" party - they too should reflect on their mistakes in a far more open fashion. I don't doubt for one second that the vast majority of Tory voters find racism disgusting, and that (when challenged) will find zero difficulty in admitting that they've made some terrible judgements in the past (as we all have).

What I want to see is a atmosphere which enables the accepting of these mistakes, and to facilitate the sort of honest discussion required to move on from it and become far better people as a result of it.

With ~600,000 members, I have little doubt that the Labour Party contains anti-Semites - it's statistically improbable for there not to be. Where I find issue is that it has been used as a useful tool for reactionaries who have fundamental disagreements with the leadership of the party as a political means. Same goes to the useful idiots who outright reject the very potentiality of anti-Semite beliefs existing within the mass membership.
