Transfer Rumour Kyle Walker

Turns out he was actually dropped towards the end of the season. Promising.

I’d rather we signed a player that we don’t have to start planning to replace on day 1.

Out of interest, how much do you think was/is 'budgeted' in transfer fees for the full back positions?

Because, if we add Tagliafico & Walker on top of Mykolenko & O'Brien we dont actually 'lose' anything.

Perhaps the £20-30mil (i guess?) budgeted for 2 players could be used on a top young player to come in. Or added to a budget for a position, meaning we could bring in someone very exciting.

Thats the straw im sucking.

People never like to hear this but we were a miles better team when Phil Neville played than when he didn’t

For context;
Everton's win percentage with Phil Neville in the Premier League was 43.4% across 242 matches, with 105 wins, 72 draws, and 65 losses. Without him, their win percentage was 32.2% over 484 matches, with 156 wins, 145 draws, and 183 losses. Neville’s presence significantly boosted Everton’s win rate, reflecting his influence as a versatile player and captain from 2005 to 2013

8 years of a sample, so no anomaly

I dont really understand these.

The win rate is obviously going to be higher with him than a 3rd rate backup.

If we replaced Neville with Essien then what would the numbers look like?

Its not as clear when the replacement is superior.

It means that all those people who at the time were calling for him to be dropped were morons.

A lot of sentiment around signings and players is based on very little.

You would think listening to people at the time that Phil Neville was the problem at Everton whereas the evidence says that this is undeniably false.

Interesting…
The biggest and most strident “no” I have ever uttered.

Would certainly not be a repeat of the Young signing which it is being framed as. Young had already adapted his game for the attributes he had lost. And to my surprise, turned out to be a really top bloke, spoke really well with great respect of the club and the fans, and actually did bring the experience and knowhow we temporarily needed, despite being blamed for everything. I thought it would be a Delph “do you know who I am” scenario, but Young actually was the great pro people said he was. A class act even with the rash bookings.

Walker? Madness. We don’t need “winning mentality” from a player in terrible terrible form and, let’s be frank, off field shenanigans, which could be seen as harsh, but we just don’t need it. We need a right back with no asterisks or caveats about age, injury, dwindling pace, deteriorating focus, or actually being a left back but can do a job on the right. Just buy a right back for the love of god that doesn’t need justifying as to why it sort possibly makes sense if you consider X,Y and Z.
Think we need someone filling in that that top shagger role.

In all seriousness though he would be a good signing. We’d get a year or two of potentially the best English right back the counties ever seen.

….or…. You might be wrong again?

Judging by the links so far, I would say somewhere in the region of £0. Short sighted, if true, imo.
