Kyle Naughton

The Sheffield Star reckon we'll be talking with his agent today, and so will Spurs:

Sheffield United already hunting for new Kyle - The Star

I still think we'll sign him though.

You can never tell what clubs will do, but if Sheff Utd did withdraw consent, it would have repercussions for any future dealings they may have. I think that we'll sign him.

I note that Everton are, in terms of their official site, maintaining a dignified silence. Good on you Everton.

Anyway, Everton who give youth a chance and spurs who seem to have a wasteland of talent, if you were not an Everton fan, unless you are into London nightlife, it would be hard to place them above us.

Everton are locked in what could soon become a three-club battle to sign Sheffield United's full-back Kyle Naughton.

Last week Everton agreed a fee with the Yorkshire club and the 20-year-old was given permission to talk to the Merseysiders over personal terms.

Naughton played for the Blades on Friday in a pre-season friendly in Malta, with manager Kevin Blackwell saying: "Sadly, that was his last game for the club. I don't want to lose my best players but the clubs have agreed on a fee."

But since then Tottenham have made a late bid for the player, with Aston Villa apparently also waiting in the wings.

Everton were expecting Naughton at Goodison Park today for a medical, but it is now believed that his advisors are also discussing terms with Spurs as well as the FA Cup finalists.

The Toffees believe that Naughton wants to join them, and are far from happy with the way the deal has been derailed over the past few days.

Everton had agreed a £5million fee, but Spurs are believed to have improved on that, and the negotiations are now expected to drag on for a few days yet.

Everton have also been linked with Reading winger Steve Hunt and Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley as boss David Moyes bids to boost a squad that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.

i have to say I hope he comes to us. It's hard to imagine Sheff. united changing their mind on the permission if a 'deal has been agreed', why would we leave it 2 days til today to talk personal terms unless we were confident the bid had been formally accepted?

If we were incompetent.

Anyway if Naughton sticks to his guns and asks to come here and does, then I think he'll arrive already halfway along towards being a v. popular player.

Maybe because he was in another country?

It's not always the clubs fault.

We clearly made an acceptable offer - its down to Naughton. If he picks us, sound, if he picks Spurs - he'll go the same way as the Hutton, Bale, Dawson, Reid, Bent, Bentley, Bostock, Gunter, Routledge and the rest of their 'young promising British talent'. Not to mention the likes of Dos Santos and 'Prince' Boateng. He won't be that thick.

I refuse to check this thread until I see Naughton has signed. Everything else is bile and worry.

In a way, not a bad move by Spurs - let someone else come in and do the dirty negotiating, get the price set, check it against your own numbers and overbid. Why get involved with all the early hash-out when you don't need to? Hopes that strategy fails.

Yeah good point. I don't think really it was Everton's fault for delaying, I think most likely we made an offer that was formally accepted.

He may not be thick but he may be offered more money by Spurs.

Fuming here. Mainly at Sheff Utd and Spurs, utter clowns..........

Maybe if we had bid for the lad when he was in the country we could have got him signed and sealed even before anybody had a chance to sniff.

"We tried to sign players, but we got badly let down by agents and other people".

Its the Everton Way, the envy of The Premiership.

I need a break. Will be back if we ever sign anybody.

Everton in drawn out transfer shocker

Sources close to the club can confirm that they were indeed taking a nap.

So now your moaning at Everton for bidding too early? Come off it.

Damned if you do, damned if you dont.

Why?

If he's as good a prospect as is touted, it's the perfect time to battle over a player whilst he's relatively cheap.

Well, because he's really an unknown to most and usually tugs of war are over more high profile players, as I see it. I thought this would be another quick move for a lower-league player that we'd sew up quickly.

Sad that it seems we're being used as a stalking horse by Spurs now, after we'd finally shaken off Newcastle!

Spurs are clearly worried they may miss out on a promising English talent. That, and Moyes record of buying from the Championship speaks for itself, that alone will encourage the likes of Redknapp.
