Kyle Naughton

Back to topic, Kyle seems like what we might need to replace Tony Hibbert who is probably the weakest player at the squad.

I really do hope we get him!!

I agree with whoever it was earlier who said he'd be a backup/squad player to begin with.

Remember how some Sheff Utd fans thought Walker was better after about 5 games total? There's two reasons for that - because they haven't had time to witness Walker's flaws yet, but also because Naughton can't be amazing (yet). If Naughton was this really good full back who'd be one of the better Premier League right backs from day one, they'd rate him as the bigger talent. As it is, he must have flaws in his game.

To be honest, whenever I hear about a young full back who's amazing going forward, my first reaction is "can he defend?". We've all heard about how great Bale was, a young Johnson was, a young Ashley Cole was. But they were only good going forwards (which shows up on match of the day), but it took a while for them to learn to defend (Bale hasn't really yet).

If all we want is an attacking full back, then we probably should buy a mediocre right winger, who is probably as good as Naughton going forwards.

Hibbert is decent defensively (useless going forwards), but gets properly shown up when the left winger has both pace and skill (like Ashley Young, Malouda, Ronaldo). He can usually just about cope against one of pace or skill, but not both, hence decent performances against the likes of Riera, Petrov. If Naughton is going to get ripped apart by the likes of Fulham, we'll have problems.

I just think Naughton will have to work himself into the team. Yobo, Baines, Jagielka all had spells outside the first team when they joined the club. Lescott started on the bench his first couple of games, though injuries got him into the team real quick.

More importantly, Number_25: how is that a troll? Aren't trolls big and scary, guarding bridges and such?
