I think the days of young players choosing Spurs over us are over. Who would you choose : Spurs, who've damaged the careers of a series of promising talents (Bale, Gunter, Bentley) or Everton who've nurtured championship players into international stars and have been widely praised for the way in which we've brought on teenagers. It's all down to the way in which Moyes has stamped his vision on the club and the team ethos which he has helped to create.
Any intelligent young player would choose us over the footballer recycling plant that is Tottenham. Let's hope Naughton is smart enough to see that then.
Young Sheffield lad shouldn't be too influenced by the London life option. Seeing what the likes of Cahill, Jagielka and Lescott have done for us from a Championship side should be enough to ensure that Everton is the right club for him.
We do have some facts that should be in favour for us.
1. Jagielka (former teammate)
2. A history of late to pick promising players outside the PL and turn them into big names. (Cahill, Jags, Lescott)
3. Each player get their chance, no matter how young they are.
4. Closer to home.
5. Good atmosphere, no "big" stars that want to decide everything.
I have a feeling that Hibbert's FA Cup final display has sealed his fate in Moyes' eyes, the attempted signing of Naughton being clear evidence of this.
Spurs are now just like the toons were, jumping in at the last minute to wave £ notes to steal players. Blackwell may just say to Everton to mincrease your offer so we end up in a bidding game which is not on. Our offer was accepted first Blackwell should stand by that if he had an ounce of integrity.
Hope Naughton does not just become another mercenary and grab more wages from Spurs and has the intelligence to see that his footballing futeure will be best served at Everton.
Spurs will probably offer better terms than us and if he's after that, the chances of him joining the Londoners are fairly big. If he's after a career move, than most certainly Everton would be his venue of choice. We build young players, not break them down. I think the lad will join us. We're also playing in Europe next season, something that may also have a impact on his decision.
Harry Redknapp has already been told he has to sell before he can buy, so it`s paper talk, Villa are interested as well, however the deciding factor over were the player goes will be the fact that Everton and Sheffield Utd have outstanding business together, (Jags, BT, and Naysmith) These deals still have debts outstanding, so it would make sense to renegotiate a deal. I believe Naughton is still out of the country? I reckon he won`t speak to any other clubs, and will be a Everton player by Wednesday
