I thought Davies and Lookman were sharp as mustard when they appeared. I hate to think of them getting sidelined this season.

I think we'll finish somewhere between 2nd and 18th based on that game and the fact I didn't watch it and the people that did watch it hold every view possible it seems.
Some people just wetting the bed mate, treating the fact that we were challenged by a very decent Genk team in a pre-season friendly to automatically mean that the squad is crap.

...I have to admit to only watching the 2nd half but the save from Stekelenburg was memorable. Can't believe somebody saying it was straight at him, it was a brilliant stop and because of that he gets my vote.

First half was a better game by miles mate

My take away from it though is i actually don't know if Schneiderlin and Gueye are suited to a pairing in centre mid, Gueye seems to play much further forward when their together and looks a bit headless chicken in that role

..very interesting point is that. I'm trying to think what difference it makes when Gueye plays with Barry, I suppose Schneiderlin plays in a bigger area than Barry which means Gueye is pushed forward. As you say, that would give Gueye more licence to get involved further up the pitch but it doesn't align with his skill set. Perhaps it explains the Lemina links, although Davies might be the more effective partner in the current squad.

It's just my own observation mate about them as a pair, I also think the comparisons to Kante etc with Gueye are now way wide of the mark, he doesn't have the discipline or general sense of vision about whats around him that Kante does - not by a mile, and frequently he overuns play and effectively creates huge gaps in the space he's vacated.

That's pretty much how I saw him. But he adds that mobility and energy Schneids lacks, just doesn't have the class on the ball to make things happen further forward. Perhaps Schneiderlin would be better suited to pushing up. Wasn't he known for being good up field?

The season he played under Koeman at Saints he effectively played a box to box roll from memory - was the best season of his career as well
