Would probably have slotted them all with overhead back-heeled bicycle kicks if he hadn't gone out wide and dropped deep at entirely separate points in the game, or at least that's how poor strikers/form of strikers were explained before Martinez came in.

Said the same thing to my dad last night at the game. Jelavic has stunk the place out for a season and missed far easier chances than Kone did last night yet is immune from criticism. Couldn't believe the reaction from some fans at the game to be honest. Yes he played poorly but he needs half a chance to show what he can do first. Didn't look fit to me; not as sharp on the ball. That will come with time.
He deserves a chance, but that's the worst Everton finishing in a single game I've seen since Stuart Barlow at Anfield, when Ronny Rosenthal got the winner in the last minute.

Should have had 4 last night...or 3 and 1 asssist when felli was waiting 3 yards away but he skied it over.
Put it down to desperation to score on his full debut. Not writing him off yet, made some good runs into space but still doesnt look fit to me.

If that's the case, I'll take Jelavic's preseason performances as an indicator that he's better than Kone. Every bit as valid.
Far too much knee-jerking and double standards in both this and the Jelavic thread. Kone missed several chances last night against Stevenage, whereas Jelavic got far less ball against much better opposition in WBA and somehow Kone is the better player? Riiiiiiiiiiight.
The sensible position to take here is to rely on each of them reacting well to competition for the starting spot, prompting both to raise their game. In the meantime, our midfield needs to create more decent chances against prem opposition.
By all means we should keep looking for striker options (I agree that Ba on loan would be good; Lukaku would be even better), but wild statements about which of Kone or Jelavic is "clearly" better than the other are all a bit premature.

If you were judging him solely on last night, you'd say he was absolute wank, but we saw him put in some good performances for Wigan last season & we therefore know he's a better player that last night would suggest. All strikers need confidence & he'll be no different, he just needs to settle in & I'm sure we'll see some goals from him. He's never going to be a world beater, but he's no Brett Angel either.
