Kone and McAleny offically released

They're not completely useless but they're also 2 Home Grown players towards the required 8, so that counts for something.
Both have them have shown serious sign of decline over the past two series. I like both of them players and would rather see them released / allowed to go on a free before they go completely Tim Howard.

Plus I would rather have us either bring in some new blood, or use some or our younger players. I don't really believe they're what we need even as back ups.

Yes. You can still release a player if they have a contract.

Less of the attitude pal.

you have to pay off the rest of their contract though unless the decision to finish it is mutual, which it rarely is. Financially speaking it therefore makes little to no sense.

I know that. I didn't say it was financial sensible, we have more money than ever though. I said that's what I wished to have happened.

I still would allow both of them to leave on frees though, which would mean we don't have to pay up the rest of their contract.

...the players hold all the aces these days, I doubt any would leave on a free without a pay off. These fella's are on big bucks.

but why would they leave to a lesser team to earn less towards the back end of their careers when they could stay in a stable home enviornment at a place theyve been for the past 8 years or so? Also, they are decent squad players, what happens if we get a couple of really bad injuries, we have no cover

..we will need numbers next season and (I believe) both have shown they can still play a part. Saying that, it's likely they'll be pushed back in the queue with new signings.
I can't say I agree mate. Both have shown extreme weaknesses when they have played for me. I don't think Barry has the legs for premier league football anymore despite his quality on the ball. Jagielka is not far behind him.

Rather both were moved on as soon as possible.

Because neither will or should be playing any football for us. If they want to go on playing then they should go to a team where they have a chance at first team football.

We are a club aiming for champions league, not a retirement home.

As somebody else pointed out, they are both homegrown, if we lose Barkley and Lukaku, that would put is at 7 HG players I think, Jags and Barry would put us at 5.

I do agree with what your saying, in an ideal world both should be moved on, but considering that we currently need 7 players just to form a squad, I can see both being kept on to play some part during the upcoming season.

I completely understand the home grown argument / defence, but if we sign other English players or even promoted some youth players say, walsh, Kenny, etc could that not fill that void?

..if you watched Barry away at Man Utd recently he was fantastic. Had he played against the Reds I'm convinced it wouldn't have been so bad. It's all about opinion, I think he's still worth having around. Also, RK was reluctant to let Jagielka go in January and I think that was justified, he played well in the final third of the season.

I'm all for getting better in but we'd struggle with a few injuries if we are playing on a number of fronts. We'll need players.
