In all this saga:
Koeman has spoken in public and at length for months on end.
Barkley has said not one word....not even today.
To have a clash you have to have two opponents.
Not in public, certainly, although Ross doesn't seem the type to say much in private, either. (One of my concerns about him as a player is the timidity with which he approaches big games. If he had the self-belief of much less talented players, like Henderson, then he'd be well on the way to being a great.)
"Clash" then, is, if not the wrong word, then not the only word. "Crush" you might say, perhaps, or "challenge" or "victimisation". I've not had too much of a problem with this, to be honest. I know Koeman has said more about him than any other player - and has probably been asked more about Ross than any other player - but I don't think I've seen anything that was unfair. Perhaps it was simply unfair to say anything, but I've not seen anything that I thought was too harsh. And he has been offered a new, reportedly highly lucrative contract, which suggests Koeman still wants him.
Regardless of the nature of the relationship, though, I still wouldn't be surprised if there's something fishy going on. Ross's complete silence - and his agent's - just adds to this for me. These days, it's very unusual for not even a peep to come out of the camp of such a high profile player.
