If Liverpool were getting Brian Cough circa 1979 people on here would still find something bitter to say.
You say that like it's a bad thing.

I think that's fair. There is a reason Real Madrid didn't move for him this summer and took a proven failure in Benitez over him. I know Manchester United really wanted him post SAF, but that was because it was between him and Moyes, not because they thought he was as good as Ferguson.
I think he fits the FSG model very well and is an upgrade on Rodgers. But the system they are using is flawed largely because Liverpool in their ignorance can't see it doesn't work for them.
As for Klopp I can see major meltdowns. The problem is in the short term the Kopites will love it. They love that siege mentality and will think it's a sign of fear from other clubs, not feelings of derision and pity.
In the longer term Klopp has the potential to really divide. Much like Rodgers he increasingly had to start picking fights with people in the club. Klopp will generate more loyalty than Rodgers though, as he has actually won things so a layer of gullible idiots will see no wrong with him.
We are going to have to wait for about 2 years of cringey annoying hell to get to that point though.
He strikes me as a German Martin O'Neill
For all those reasons I find the appointment to be very odd. I keep expecting this to fall apart any second. It's an unlikely match up.
As you say, he needs a familiar infrastructure around him and time to be a success...and that's IF he can get the hang of this league's football culture...no German beside Magath has been here and tried it in the top flight, maybe for good reason?
By November the novelty will have worn off and they'll have a manager in place who has a lot to prove after last season's meltdown.I think that's fair. I just dont see him replicating anything like the type of success that he had in the Bundesliga - a league he was a manager in for 9 seasons before he achieved anything of note.
His record with Mainz was actually very good (even considering his relegation). It was very Moyes like, with a smaller team than Everton.
The worry I'd have over him is his last couple of years. He has slipped well down the pecking order in Germany and last season spent a lot of it fighting relegation. It suggests to me that he has been found out a bit.
Would love it if he was just rubbish from the off. The kopites would be caught in one of their classic paradoxes where they want to be seen to be backing the manager but they all are tired of him after one bad season and want him out for the next flavour of the month. A bit like the way all of the RS in the media said an obligatory 'I was surprised by Brendan's sacking' before going on to allude that they don't really give one because Klopp is better. They all want to maintain this image of class and dignity FC but their short term lust for any success betrays them every single time. There is no 'Liverpool way' anymore, they are every bit as bad as Chelsea in how they operate.
he didn't really have a choice in selling them though and was quite vocal that he didn't want them to go.Well yes that says it all to me. That is the equivalent of them selling Suarez and Gerrard to Manchester United the summer after they came second.
