If Liverpool were getting Brian Cough circa 1979 people on here would still find something bitter to say.
They'd have had something relevant to say because Brian Clough did his stuff at clubs unfashionable and with little expectation, and no intrusiveness into his methods. If he'd have walked into LFC in 1979 he'd have been guzzling down two bottles of JD per day rather than the one he was necking at Forest at that time.

...and that principle holds true with Klopp to Liverpool now.

You mean because some of us are not falling for the hype. He a good manager, but to act like he the saviour is silly. There are alot of top managers in our league right now. It's won't be easy for klopp.

Nope. Just that a lot of people seem to care. It's almost hidden panic. A bit of fear.

Can't say I'm arsed really.

They are already becoming completely embarrassing about this appointment. I think they will be unbearable soon. I didn't mind it with Rodgers as I could laugh at them but it is already exceptionally annoying.

They remind me of the "loadsamoney" types who are the norm across sections of the south of England. They are not content with just having a nice car, house, dress etc they want everybody to know just how brilliant it is and want to have the feeling that they are richer than everyone else It's the same with them and Klopp.

I could forgive them being happy with a new manager. Who wouldn't be happy with Klopp, who wouldn't be? The fact that so many of the comments are akin to (or exactly) "everyone else in the league is going to be so jealous" "we are going to be the envy of every club" "our manager is a legend" "you are all going to hate us because we have a better manager than you".
It is not enough to just be quietly happy, they desperately want to belittle everyone else in the process.

The simple truth is nobody will really care Klopp has gone to Liverpool. Of all the teams we are the ones most likely to be frustrated by it as it means they might overtake us in the league table. There is some frustration there, but the viewpoint is fairly nonplussed. That will eat away at them that we don't spend our time indulging their narcissism. As for the top teams, I doubt a single one of them will be in the least bit bothered. There is no way any of the top teams would have traded their manager for Klopp.

The narrative is already being created though amongst some of the more delusional that "Klopp chose us over Bayern". I can see him manipulating that one. It plays into their ego's perfectly and makes them think they are a big club again. They will chase any dream. FSG will also get lots of extra credit from it.

Essentially Klopp is the wet dream for Kopites. He is the embodiment of Liverpool. He is an out of towner who has fallen for their "charm" or more accurately their delusional lies and spoilt teenager behaviour. This is the essence of Liverpool FC now. They are a club that services out of town supporters who are desperate weirdo's searching for a bit of meaning. That is Klopp all over.

It will be unbearable for a bit of time. They are going to project their own neurosis onto him so just be prepared for that. Also be aware none of the happiness at getting the manager is about him being good for the team, it is just an excuse for them to try and belittle others. They have bought a range Rover from having a Fiesta. To us sat in a Mondeo that is quite frustrating. But just content yourself that they are going to be driving past Bentley's making knobs of themselves telling said drivers how jealous they must be.

As for Klopp he is a decent manager but he was found out a bit while at Dortmund. The premier league is a hard league. It could go either way.

Spot on.

Three things players of that class want:

Massive wages
CL football
London

If you haven't got at least two to offer you dont get them. Liverpool have none to offer.

The things that's alarming to them is that Klopp happily and regularly sold his best players to his biggest rivals. The idea that Klopp is going to get them big names is fanciful, that's not how he worked at Dortmund.

If FSG were changing strategy to recruiting big name players they'd have got Ancelotti. They clearly want to keep going down the moneyball route. Klopp will not resist that, he will continue on that path.

At Dortmund he had a fantastic team recruiting for him and also an excellent youth set up. Liverpools youth set up is poor while their recruitment over the last 15 years has been terrible. The key question for Klopp now, is whether he can emulate his success at Dortmund without the ability to replace his star players with equally good players for less money? Has he got enough about him to do that? In essence was Dortmunds success down entirely to Klopp or other factors.

Likewise with Liverpool the question is going to be, was the problem entirely at Rodgers doorstep, or was it partly a failed system alongside a poorer manager.

I have my feelings on this. In the end we will only see with the results. But the idea they are going to be getting top players is just untrue. It's not how Klopp works.

Hand on heart: if Klopp had gone to City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea I'd I've thought that it was a novelty appointment and quite bizzare. The feller has a good record at Dortmund, but his temperament for a top club would make it an unwise move.

...and I can see Klopp getting realy tiresome really quickly.

He's just a big divvy who thinks he has a sense of humour. He's German FFS!

You're not wrong mate.

Whoever they got they'd go utterly cringe over. It seems to be what they do.

Agree though. Could go either way b

For all those reasons I find the appointment to be very odd. I keep expecting this to fall apart any second. It's an unlikely match up.

As you say, he needs a familiar infrastructure around him and time to be a success...and that's IF he can get the hang of this league's football culture...no German beside Magath has been here and tried it in the top flight, maybe for good reason?

I think that's fair. There is a reason Real Madrid didn't move for him this summer and took a proven failure in Benitez over him. I know Manchester United really wanted him post SAF, but that was because it was between him and Moyes, not because they thought he was as good as Ferguson.

I think he fits the FSG model very well and is an upgrade on Rodgers. But the system they are using is flawed largely because Liverpool in their ignorance can't see it doesn't work for them.

As for Klopp I can see major meltdowns. The problem is in the short term the Kopites will love it. They love that siege mentality and will think it's a sign of fear from other clubs, not feelings of derision and pity.

In the longer term Klopp has the potential to really divide. Much like Rodgers he increasingly had to start picking fights with people in the club. Klopp will generate more loyalty than Rodgers though, as he has actually won things so a layer of gullible idiots will see no wrong with him.

We are going to have to wait for about 2 years of cringey annoying hell to get to that point though.

Thanks mate. It does but with Klopp they seem to have really bought into the brand. An Ancelotti would not be interested in the pantomime at all. For Klopp he will lap it up.
