They have twice as many Twitter followers mate.

I know you will scoff, but its a decent metric in this day and age.

I mean why would people support Spurs over City?

Spurs will have a far higher number of match going fans etc City might have a fair number of arm chair fans around the globe, but very few of them would ever bother to make the trip to Manchester.

Spurs would take more fans to a match played practically anywhere, you'd get the a higher amount of armchair fans willing to see City in an exhibition game though in the US etc

And the type of people who go to exhibition games abroad are the type to spend money on puma merchandise.

Everton have a much better away following than city . We are still light years behind them .

The answer lies in your own question,

City have been a force for about what, ten years?

My first memory of football is Spurs winning the Double nearly 60 years ago.

And they have remained one of the biggest and most glamourous clubs in England ever since......whilst City languished in the doldrums for 40 years between the Joe Mercer team and the Arabs arriving, falling as low as the third tier not so very long ago.

So during that forty years, who would have supported City over Spurs?

Now, it is undoubtedly true that City are in the process of amassing a global fanbase which will eclipse Spurs if things keep going the way they are but that will take time.

So right now I would say Spurs have more worldwide fans than City.
City’s success is only over the last 10 years. Before that united were the club all the ‘glory hunters’ wanted to follow. The RS continued to grow their fan base, largely due to their early success around the turn of the century and their lucky champions league win. I too question the size of this contract as only truly global clubs such as real, Barca and united can command such fees. It’s hard to see how city can make them a significant profit after an outlay if 65m per annum.

The deal is over 10 years, so i’d Say puma have locked themselves in now based on the rate their fan base is growing and how many shirts they will sell in say 5 years time.

Though I’d say globally, they already sell a load more kits than 90% of English clubs.

We really really have to get smarter on the kit and on our commercial / marketing skills in the club. We have missed some big marketing opportunities in recent years, including when Tim Howard was our GK - doesn't matter what we think of his quality, he was big in the USA - and we also underestimate the potential for new fans of ANY EPL club. There are fans out there who are not just glory hunting, but just want any premier league souvenir, so a nice kit is important, with adidas, nike or puma - or someone well known. More important than that if we can promote EFC as a genuine, grassroots, 'authentic' club, which has local players, a good spirit, and is punching above its weight, without MASSIVE money of the top 6, it will definitely attract new followers and finance.

I totally agree, the amount of times I'm on holiday in another country and the sports shops have every other Premier league kit except ours because of the kitbag/fanatics deal, its like we don't exist

It's ridiculous isn't it. And I've also seen and heard and helped friends or family with this idea of just buying literally any nice looking EPL shirt. And we are blue!?? Loads of people would buy a trendy blue shirt. FFS

Those Adidas ones are just Chelsea though

I believe there's different levels within NIke and Adidas, with 'elite' designs or 'Level 1' or something, and then more standard ones. i think the elite clubs get bespoke designs they can influence, whereas if you have a lower rate of sponsorship you don't get a say, and you might end up looking like a different club as well.
