Kieran Dowell

To me, he's an ace #10. Let him find pockets and use his skill to maneuver without having to worry about pressing or tracking back. You don't marry Ariana Grande and bitch about her cooking.

He's maybe the most pure skilled footballer we have. Lookman's got some fancy footwork too, but Dowell could nutmeg you in a phone booth*.

*kids ask your mar and dar what these were.

Think we agree he drifts in games mate. But he switches off. It isn't a case of him not being arsed at all. It's a concentration thing which he needs to sort out.

He has a very good work ethic although his style makes him look lazy. Believe me Unsy wouldn't tolerate him if he was lazy mate.

Anyway, let's hope he sorts it out as I think he will get more game time if he does.

Said this in the game thread and said it months ago on the youth thread. I wouldn't be surprised if he's just plain bored at that level sometimes. I think he'd be clocked in during a Prem game the whole time without a doubt.

Kieran Dowell said the ‘Wayne Rooney factor’ is helping to bring out the best in him after the midfielder produced another eye-catching performance in the friendly win against FC Twente.

Fresh from scoring a stunner in the 2-1 win against Gor Mahia in Tanzania last week, Dowell chipped in with a sublime left-foot finish to add the gloss to Everton’s 3-0 victory over their Dutch opponents.

That strike capped an excellent second-half display from the England Under-20 World Cup winner, who is seizing his chance to impress manager Ronald Koeman during the Blues’ pre-season friendly campaign.

And Dowell said he is reaping the benefits of playing alongside the likes of Rooney and fellow new signing Davy Klaassen as he seeks to make his mark in the first team.

“He’s been quality,” said Dowell, referring to the positive influence Rooney has had on the Everton squad since his arrival from Manchester United.

“As a local lad as well, he’s really taken to us young local lads and really helped us.

“Even sitting next to me in the first half, he was giving me tips before I came on, so it’s really good to have someone like him in the squad.

“It was great playing with Wazza and Davy (Klaassen) in the second half, and with Cuco Martina overlapping down the right, I thought it worked really well.”

Dowell is one of a number of young Blues staking a strong claim for a place in Koeman’s squad for next week’s Europa League qualifier at Goodison.

Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who were also part of England Under 20’s World Cup winning squad this summer, similarly impressed against FC Twente and Dowell believes the Blues’ young lions are spurring each other on.

“I think we’ve fit into the group really well,” said the midfielder of his England colleagues.

“There’s a lot of young lads in the squad and I think that’s healthy because young lads bring loads of energy, and that also keeps the older lads on their toes as well.

“There’s loads of people fighting for places - it’s probably difficult to name the side at the moment - so there’s plenty of healthy competition.”

The players now have one last chance to impress the manager, in Saturday’s friendly game versus Genk in Belgium, before all attention turns to the Europa League.

Dowell added: “It’s a case of just getting more match fitness on Saturday and then the next game is around the corner next Thursday, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Rooneys finished they said, whats the point they said, kissed the badge they said!!!

ROONEY, ROONEY, ROONEY

He's got the football brain that Barkley lacks & absolutely will do better playing alongside quality players. I hope Koeman gives him a chance to fulfill his potential. He could be real class.

Lovely left foot and some of his goals are sublime, however something seems to be lacking for him to make the grade and I cant put my finger on it.
I've watched him a few times now and get the same impression as you. He just seems too ephemeral for want of a better word, to succeed in the PL. Hopefully I'm utterly wrong and he'll be an absolute star for two seasons before jibbing us off to join Chelski or some such ,as per.

I agree he seems to drift in and out of games too much and doesn't have that tenacity in midfield that Koeman likes like Davies.

He has talent but he needs to apply himself more for Koeman to consider him for the first team/subs bench imo.

Out of all the young lads (21 and under) in the squad right now I think the following will be the case

Davies: Makes it and good enough for the 1st team

Kenny: same as above ^^

Lookman: Same as above^^

Pickford: obviously same as above ^^

Holgate: think he's 50/50 - plays well in a back 3 but unless he physically develops can't see him making it at us as a back 2 CB and going to a bottom half club as a squad player ala Gosling

Dowell: as already mentioned, think a squad player at best if he can add some tenacity to his game, if not can see him being let go off long term

Calvert Lewin: think he gets plenty of chances and will continue to, but I don't think he'll make it - just doesn't show enough to warrant being a 1st/2nd choice forward for a top 7 club

Pennington: Think he'll be a championship player at best

Walsh: think he'll slither into championship obscurity and won't make it with our midfield options

Browning: same as above ^^

Galloway- think he could make it as a squad player but don't think Koeman rates him or will keep him long term, a shame as he looked good at LB for us, sad that we took him and Spurs took Alli from the same team around the same time - Roberto Martinez for you.

Pickfords 23 mert.

And nobody really knows if Ali was an option, harsh to blame clown shoes for missing Ali when 39393939393939 other managers did the same.

Picking up a defensive player as opposed to an attacking one is a Martinez thing?

Also we had Barkley, why get another player in the exact same position with similar ability (especially at the time)
