Kicking the ball out for an injured player.

If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
In my opinion this is the stupidest thing that happens in football, I hate Leeds as much as the next person but I don't think they should have allowed Villa to score.. I think the club medics should be allowed to come on while play continues that would solve this issue, players who are injured get quick attention and it would also stop players going down to get the ball kicked out.

Thats less a Leeds thing, more a Bielsa thing. His philosophy of how the game should be played means more to him than the result and he obviously takes sportsmanship very seriously.

Wouldve been fun to see what Janssen had to say at full time.

The only argument for Villa that I'd have was that the Leeds player slowed down and pointed to the like like he was going to kick it out.. the worst is when a player gets injured and his team play on attacking them lose the ball and start looking for the other team to put it out of play.

I personally think FIFA should make a statement outlawing the practice.

That will remove any ambiguity.

Just play to the whistle....that was the first thing our games master told us when we played for our primary school teams.

Maybe some of the old timers can confirm this.

I am sure that is what used to happen....the trainer ran on and play continued, unless it was in the vital areas of the pitch.

I have this recollection of seeing scenes like that as a young boy starting off going the game.

The issue in that particular instance was that earlier in the game Villa had kicked it out for a Leeds injured player.

But nobbish to not return the favour.

Paulo De Canio waves and say Buona Sera
Must admit I never thought I'd ever see the words 'Leeds United' and 'sportsman like gesture' in the same sentence though

It's sportsmanship and if the player/s want to not participate...be prepared to get on the recieving end of some unsavoury retaliation imo.

And as @degsy mentioned, Di Canio could've easily not bothered and slotted into an empty net when Gerrard dislocated his knee. He didn't. Was his choice.
