This guy is meant to be on 800k plus a year...so far doing very little apart from tour guide for our new manager. 20 days and counting...wouldn't be surprised if we end up being the only pl side without any incomings.
So, to be clear if we sign three good players this window, will that be Thelwell's doing? Or will everyone give Moyes the credit?

Equally if we sign three poor ones? Will Thelwell be to blame?

This is the obvious route we'll be going down for the foreseeable I think. Good signings will be attributed to one and bad signings to the other

To anyone wanting to see what it’s been like for Thelwell, try this;

- Have others write you a shopping list with all the items you need
- Go to the shops and put the items into your trolley
- Get to the checkout and scan them all
- When you are asked to pay, remove an old can of tomatoes from your pocket and a receipt from 6 months ago to try and get a refund
- Look at all your shopping and decide which item (if any) you can now purchase
- Trudge back to work and get all the grief even though you didn’t write the list in the first place

That was Chongy.
Where on earth did you get that idea? Chong was in the boardroom not making day to day decisions to run the club, that is down to the management structure - led by Thelwell. Although he did well Chong (mostly behind the scenes) was essentially a figurehead and would have chaired the meetings that arose periodically.

As usual, the truth isn't that he's the worst ever DOF, nor that he's done an amazing job. People think it's easy to pick up great players because Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton have done it with quite a few players. The truth is a lot of the time you either get what you pay for or worse. Thelwell has brought in a lot of average players and panic buys, but so would most people have done given how he's had to operate. It makes him an average DOF, and doesn't justify a contract extension. We need a structure on the footballing side of the club, that identifies players who play the Everton way, which is high energy aggressive high pressing football. This philosophy needs to go through all of the age groups through to the first team and through to the recruitment policy. That is a massive project, and can't happen overnight. The starting point is the summer and should include a new DOF. For now, let's see if we can bring in one or two players on reasonable wages for reasonable fees who have a bit of pace in the wide areas.

And then pay £25 million for Beto on the way home?

We will not be signing 3 good players...at this stage, looks more to me like panic buying closer or on deadline day.

If you have no money whatsoever then a ‘buy now pay later deal’ gets a body in the building when your main striker hasn’t been consistently fit for 2 years. It was a gamble if he would be any good in the Premier league but not getting anybody in whatsoever and relying on DCL being fit all season would have been the bigger gamble.
