Kevin Keegan Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis

"I will love it if he beats this"

Life is more important than football, and besides, I don't believe he was a fully paid up member if the cult.

Best wishes from me, hope he gets through it
He wasn't a fully-paid up member of the cult because they hated him for thinking he could be successful without them and never truly forgave him for going on and proving it. He left them in 1977 as a European champion. It galled them to see him go on to Hamburg and win two Ballons d'Or, the Bundesliga (against Breitner and Rummenigge's Bayern), make another European Cup final and become England captain in foreign colours. He came back to Southampton and was top goalscorer in the league with 26 goals. He didn't need them...and they knew it. They couldn't wait to erase him from their history and replace with "The King".

As a result, he's been underrated, believe it or not, since.

He is much more likeable than Dogleash but Dogleash was a much better player.

Couldn't see a thread about this so...

I know he played for the RS, but unlike most who did, I always liked him. Even his deranged rant at Fergie showed a passion that is all too rare in today's game. I associate him more with Newcastle than our neighbours now anyway.

Was very sorry to hear of this diagnosis. Hoping he can beat it, though the odds are against him.

Rivalry be damned in this case, I wish him all the best...

Brilliant player in his time and when he left Liverpool became a better one, Hamburg, Southampton always gave his all.

Funnily enough, I don't actually agree with that. I think this is the narrative "they" want. Both were magnificent players. But Keegan won two Ballons d'Or and added the Bundesliga (when it was probably the best league in the world). The Ballon d'Or was always a good indication of who was actually the top dog in a particular year and wasn't subject to hindsight or as much parochial bias. At international level, Dalgish never turned up at the World Cup. He was dropped in 1982 - at his peak - and bailed out of 1986. Keegan's only World Cup was destroyed by injury.

They were both brilliant players in different ways. Dalglish had more natural talent, but Keegan had more energy and a wider horizon, going on to master German in twelve months and becoming a hero there too. Keegan is better known abroad for these reasons.

It's all about opinions.

Any man who wears Brut aftershave and falls off his bike on Superstars has to be a winner!!

I wish him the very best in his fight and recognise he was a great player for LFC and England. He squeezed every last drop out of the talent he was born with and pushed himself to be the best he possibly could be…his record speaks for itself.

Don’t forget his stint as a player at Newcastle where he is revered.
His last game for the Geordies saw him leave, still in his kit,in a helicopter that landed in the centre circle at St.James Park.

He was great header of the ball, despite being quite small - 5' 6" ?
