This has been my question too.. I don't pretend to know how the transfer market works in these 'modern times' what with personal terms, image rights, Champions League registration, buy on fees etc.. All I got told was, wheels had been set in motion and a bid had been tabled and accepted. I'm not sure who approached who and where ( the rules of 'tapping up' have to be observed at some point). I just get the feeling when such 'high profile' deals are done ( Berbatov, Arteta,Robinho ..) on the last day of the transfer window, it's done more than just to pull the rug from other suitors..even the buy out of Manchester City was done on the last day of the transfer window in 2008 ( thank you Wikipedia ). So, Jack to Chelsea wouldn't surprise me along with a fake bidding tug of war between clubs.

One of three British strikers I'd give my eye teeth for at Goodison. All are perfect playing on their own in Moyes' preferred formation, all can hold the ball up, all are good in the air, all have the work rate required, all would cost more money than we have.

I'd take him, or Fletcher, or Rodallega - we have gash strikers starting every week in the face of a way-past-it Saha and a striker who isn't a striker and scored 1 goal in 13 months and doesn't contribute with anything on the field any more, except for 2 games, in the face of Cahill.
