Keep Baines as Oviedo back up?

Baines is the better player obviously. The only thing you would need to consider at some point is if he really does want to leave for United, would we be better off with the 20 million to spend elsewhere and Oviedo at left back.

It's a question that was unthinkable a month ago.
This, if selling Baines meant Lukaku was signed i'd take that.

I think it would be a big disrespect to Oviedo if he did not keep his place. Especially if his next three games will be anything like his last three. Baines is world class but Oviedo is not just doing a job at LB he is on fire burning up the premier league. Why would we put that fire out?

Or rather, we've a great left side pairing if Baines is back as LB and Oviedo plays left wing, with Pienaar in a more central role.

Or options?
Oviedo and Coleman perfect modern day fullbacks with great pace, supreme athleticism, ability to move forward with the ball... today's wingers need to be in the mold of Pienaar, far more technically capable and assured in possesion. Neither of our fullbacks can operate as wingers, in fact we're seeing Mirallas struggle this season I think for that very reason, the role he is being asked to play is quite different (I think he could do a job upfront). It's why Pienaar still reigns supreme when it comes to the wide midfield, he is the ideal player for those positions. Deolofeu suceeds not as a rule but as the exception, purely because he is so incredibly talented. He can play like an old style winger - as Martinez calls him - and still skin people at pace because he wants to. He's that good.

Did anyone else see Bryan near the end of the game? It looked like he pulled up with a muscle issue. Had a quick grimmace, rubbed his leg, then seconds later was haring off down the wing to try and get us a goal.

Loved that. Baines is similar in that regard. A proper old fashioned footballer who you could imagine riding to the game on the bus with the fans. Something about Everton I think brings out that kind of mans man mentality. I like it a lot.

Baines will get his starting position back. One good thing about Oviedo is that he can play wing. He'll start and get in matches plenty of times even when everybody is healthy.
