Just because they've been observed going faster than the speed of light doesn't mean that they actually were.

I'm assuming that what is happening is beyond the equipment they have to accurately measure. What they're testing is unprecedented, so naturally they can't be sure that the measurements they're taking are being read correctly.
 

I'm a physicist by trade. If this experiment was done on a Friday afternoon, I think it might need repeating. Scientists are partial to a lunchtime beer too.
